Point and Shoot Camera advice
The problem is, it and all of its supporting gear are most definitely not bike travel friendly. What I am looking for are some suggestions on a quality, inexpensive point and shoot that I can carry with me on the bike. I want fast shutter speeds as that seems to be the biggest fault with most inexpensive P&S cameras. I would like a high optical zoom. Preferably SDHC compatible. Inexpensive and/or very tough as I fully expect it to be dropped off a moving motorcycle at some point. We currently have a couple and they are very nice for static shots but even tiny movement ruins otherwise great pics. As I said, this is for bike trips so it doesn't have to be DSLR quality shots but I would like to snap pics on the road of some of the sights I will see and I am not about to risk a $1200 camera body and $300-$2500 worth of glass getting shots with the good camera. So...suggest away! |

Sony HX10V - very high optical zoom and maybe a bit more pricey than the normal point-and-shoot, but they definitely have their stuff together when it comes to image quality, especially video capabilities. My brother has the predecessor HX9V and it just blows any other compact camera I have seen out of the water.
Not a tough camera, for that you'd probably rather want to get something like a sports camera, but I am sure that would mean making other compromises. Maybe a good idea to get a good, tough case for your camera, that should help if it does get dropped. |

Ended up with an S100...so far, I love the **** out of it.
Very fast shutter, decent aperture and a good optical zoom. If I am going out to actually take pics, I grab the DSLR and my sling bag with whatever lenses I will need for whatever I am shooting. I just wanted this for something to keep on the bike in case I see something cool I want to snap a shot of. |

I was going to suggest a smartphone :-P my HTC Amaze 4g has 8mp camera with F2.2 lens. In good light it takes some pretty decent photos for a cell phone... even has nice bokeh. Then right from the phone you can immediately share with friends, family, strangers via internet
