Apple's Biggest Marketing Secret Was Revealed In Federal Court

Apple no longer actually needs to do ANY advertising when it launches new products, marketing chief Phil Schiller testified Friday in the Apple v. Samsung patent trial in a San Jose, Calif., federal court. Instead, the company relies on these two strategies:
  • Rely on the media to create buzz for its products through positive reviews.
  • Product placement in TV shows and movies.

I mean.... I'd call both of those things advertising. Just not traditional advertising. I would certainly agree that Apple pretty much just has to say "hey there's a new one out now" and that's about it.

So.. in theory, a guy loosing an iphone prototype in a bar and a gizmodo reviewing it and police arresting him (forgot what happened) falls under :

Rely on the media to create buzz for its products through positive reviews.
Product placement in TV shows and movies.

Yes, and it's entirely possible those were intentional . I can't imagine someone accidentally doing that twice in a row given how strict apple is about stuff like that. Possible, but still... makes one think.
