Help setting up a web server
I recently bought a thermostatically controlled BBQ/Smoker controller, that I use to control the temperature of my grill (overnight for example). It has a built in web server (I think that is the correct term) so that the device can be controlled over a home network, and eventually over the WWW. It also has terrible-to-non existent documentation. When you first turn on the controller it broadcasts its own SSID (GoldenLion) in AdHoc mode, I am able to connect to the AdHoc network on my computer and access the controls and the data. I am running ddwrt on my routers for my home network (one is just an access point with DHCP disabled). I have been able to rename the controller's SSID to match that of my home network and place it into Infra mode. This allows me to access the controller whilst connect to my home network. Great! The problem I have is that I can only do so if I disable the security on my home network and clearly that is undesirable. I have tried to place the static ip that I assigned to the controller in the router's DMZ but I cannot figure how to enable security without losing access to the controller. The router is secured via WPA2 and I set it to Personal Mixed with TKIP+AES which I think should give me the most interoperability for different devices. I do not know what setting to give the controller, there are many to chose from. I have tried to attach images for you to get a better idea. Please help! Thanks |

Unless you need to access it from outside your network I would take it out of the DMZ and stick it on your internal network. Give it a fixed IP within the subnet of your home network but out side any DHCP ranges that you have. With the security off try and find out, by going through the settings, what Wifi protocols your BBQ device supports. You may have to lower your home wifi's to match it.
Try that Regards Sub. |
