SolaHD is owned by Emerson. I can't find any other info on power supplies made by them, but based on their other electronic products, they're a low end manufacturer. I could suggest a better alternative if I knew where you'll be shopping.

Everything. TV, stereo, computer, industrial equipment, model trains, you name it. All DC-DC converter types are called switching power supplies. It's a general term.

Emerson Electric doesn't make everything under its trademarked name. For example their consumer products are made by other companies, apparently without much involvement with the design, and formerly their TVs were by Orion, a junky Japanese company, but are now by Funai, a different junky Japanese company whose products are actually reliable. But Emerson still oversees manufacture of its power products, everything from big power generators (they compete against GE for those) to power supplies (in addition to SolaHD, I think they own Lamda). I'm not saying Emerson power supplies are good, only that they're not necessarily junk like some of their other products.
