What's the point? 802.11AC
I had an idea if he used an E4200v1 bridged if that could be a better AC client than a USB 2 bottleneck. |

So right now AC routers are basically future-proofing. As you said, there aren't actually any devices that use the AC standard. Heck, the AC standard isn't even finalized.
But also as you noticed, AC isn't exactly long range, and doesn't really play nice with walls. It's one of those things that's really really great if you fit the use-cases for it, but isn't any better than N in all the other use-cases. |

I read here that the WiFi Certification testing won't even start till early next year
http://pusz4frog.wordpress.com/2012/...a-11ac-router/ It sounds like that with 11n launch, there was issues because the initial 11n products had performance and compatibility issues. Do you think it is better to wait till early next year to get a WiFi Certified 11ac router? |

Just wondering, can't you lay a ethernet cable across between you and your neighbor? Ask the neighbor inbetween if you could lay it across their fence or somewhere unseen.

AC is high speed, but short range. For longer ranger you may want to look at using N.
However, in both cases there are several ways to help increase your range... 1. Use a repeater at both outer walls (preferably at a window). This will strengthen the signal to carry it the distance between the houses. This obviously requires the purchase of the repeaters and may still not resolve your issue. 2. Use a parabolic antenna to direct the signal. This should help extend the range. There are several plans for DIY setups or you could try purchasing a real Parabolic antenna for best performance. I would suggest trying one of the cheap DIY ones just to see how much impact it has for you. http://www.pcworld.com/article/15095...reflector.html http://www.freeantennas.com/projects...te2/index.html http://coachdanny.blogspot.com/2007/...indsurfer.html There is even one using a Pringles can somewhere . Anyways I have heard good things about the signal boosts, I have no idea if it will be enough for you guys alone, but it's worth a shot.
