New build

This is the build I was recommended by you guys a few months ago,

Processor: Intel 2500K - £167.99 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Sandyb...7447622&sr=8-1

Mobo: AsRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 - £117.68 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

PSU: Corsair 750HX - £115.12 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

SSD: OCZ agility 3 - £71.29 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

GPU - Gigabyte GTX560 TI - £159.99 - http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyt...l?q=560&src=16

Ram - 8GB G.skill Ripjaws - £41.33 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Skill-Ripj...pr_product_top

Case - HAF x? - £139.99 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermaltake-...7530544&sr=1-1

Good to go? Or should I now replace the 2500k with the 3570K?

I would get a z77 board that way you can upgrade to Ivy later on down the road. It also has some other features like USB3 native support, better/more PCI-E lanes, etc.

Unless I had a specific need or was going water, I'd probably look at a smaller case, but that's me.

Only critique I may add is the GPU - Nvidia is due to release the new 660 which is going to possible rock ATi's pricing structure even more depending on how powerful it is.

Even if they weren't releasing a new card - I'd go a 7850 over anything from the previous gen of either Nvidia or Ati - it's just a mega overclocker for what you're paying for.

Well I'd just like a big case, just in case in the future I decide to upgrade etc unless you can suggest any cool midi cases?

Sorry the 560ti is a megaoverclocker or the 7850?

In all honestly, I'm just a first time enthusiast who's been wanting to get a custom rig for a while now and it's reached a point where I'm anxious as to actually getting it all done! But I'm ordering the SSD, the 2500k, the 750hx and the 8gb as they look fine

2500k or Ivy? I thought your original build was an Ivy i5 and not a Sandy i5? Oh well, not a huge difference, the Sandy's just OC a bit better than the Ivy's thats all.

You have your GPU's mixed up - the 7850 can be seriously overclocked - near a 7950 almost, it's bang per buck is pretty good. Though, like I said, if you wait for the 660 to hit the market, it'll only be a good thing for you as prices will come down or you'll see a better card within your price range be introduced (i.e. the 660 may be the next bang per buck king).

As far as the case goes - that HAF X is pretty much king for big builds - BUT it's pricey.

The beauty of a big case is if you ever decide that you want to go water cooling, which the HAF X/932 is great for, it leaves a lot of options on the table.

BUT if you wanted to save some coin and go smaller I'd suggest the following:

HAF 932 - essentially a cheaper HAF X.

Also a few others to throw into the mix:

Coolermaster 690 Mk II

Sandybridge 3570k it is then (after reading reviews)! It makes sense what you're saying about the 660s, is there a timescale on their release? Are you suggesting I put off the build until their release or get the 7850 until their release?

I'll look into those cases thanks, the 800D looks a nice case but a little too expensive at £200 tbh :/ any other suggestions? I like the clear side panel, wouldn't mind one that can be lit up!

Yeah the Corsairs are pricey and they also limit what you can do water wise later on.

Look into my other suggestions and see if anything takes your liking. If not the 932 is a great choice.

I'd say wait till the 660 is out, should be a week or so off. Best think with the Ivy is you can use the on chip graphics if the CPU to tide you over for basics till the 660 hits - assuming you want to.buy this very minute!

Okay after much deliberation this is what I've settled on

Processor: Intel 3570k

Mobo: AsRock Z77 Extreme4

PSU: Corsair 750AX

SSD: Samsung 830 128GB

GPU - Onboard until the 660's are released

Ram - 8GB G.skill Ripjaws

Missed anything vital? Any (strong) objections? ... or is it ready to go!

Not a strong objection, but I'm a fan of the NZXT Switch 810 and the CM HAF XM (looks like an X but smaller)

Yeahh the large case has been mentioned, I'd prefer good case cooling rather than have the fans spin up but I wil take a look at those until I order the case over the weekend (after payday lol)

Another question, I've got a few parts already. Thing is I've managed to order 16gb of ram instead of 8, now will I get a significant improvement in performance or any advantages in having 16gb as opposed to 8gb or should I just return a pair?

660Ti's just released - have a look at the reviews (there's a thread in the news section) and see if its a card that you'd want - OR - if the price on an ATI card has decreased.

To be honest - if the prices of the 7850's dropped by $50, to say $150 - that'd be a darn hard card to beat clock for clock.

Either way - great time to be buying as it'll trigger a price war OR you'll have the latest tech rearing to go.

Did you decide on a case?

The 660TI's have come in priced around ~£250 here, that is actually similar if not a tad less than the 7950's so will have to read up on the reviews and compare performance. Meanwhile I'm monitoring retailers for drops in either the 560ti/7850/7950 as a result of it's release and if anything HOT comes up, it'll be mine

And on the case, not yet. It's between the Haf X and something smaller. But I'll have made my choice by Sunday at the latest anyhow. Thanks for all the input thus far guys, pretty excited at getting my first build finally underway !
