Can I improve new routers performance?

I just connected the cisco e3200 dual band router to replace the crappy cisco that I recieved from Rogers. my first question is this... As long as the wifi light is off on the old modem/router can I assume that the bridge went ok?

2. Is their anything on the new routers webpage that I can do to improve performance?

3. I did the setup with the install CD and even though I gave a name and password to my router I've noticed through my iPhone that two wifi options appear for my new router with the same name. One is secure and the other isn't. I was able to connect to the unsecure one too. Is this maybe for guests?
