Broken SATA power connector

So I was just moving my computer a minute ago and was adjusting the power connectors for my hard drives when somehow too much pressure was applied in a downward direction to my Seagate Barracuda and the connector on the hard drive snapped off. The pins are still intact, just the little plastic thing that covers them is broken. Mind you this HD doesn't have a standard molex power connector. Is there any way I can still get power to the hard drive in order to get the data off of it? Thanks.

-Jake

Update:
Okay so new development: I put the little plastic part that broke off into the power connector from the psu and tried plugging it back on...it seems to have worked (currently my psu is crap so I'm waiting on a new one to get here in a few days so I can't test it just yet), at least i have a feeling that the gold finger pin things are making contact with those on the input power connector. Is my outlook any better because of this??? Thanks again.

There are two power connectors on most sata drives, there should be a molex on the seagate as well, you can use either, but not both.

PommieB:

you must not have any segate baracudas because as the original poster already said there are NO molex power connectors on the Baracudas.

Sorry, the seagate sata drives I use have the molex power connectors, didn't realise some were different. I guess you learn something new all the time. Thanks for pointing that out.

The part that broke is the "plastic bits around the plugs on the hd" as you called it. I'm still having issues (new psu arrived but now my computer won't post........) so I can't really test anything yet...

did this to a raptor 36g (but on the sata cable) broke the pcb board

the pcb board came out with the sata cable (the copper strips stayed on the hdd circt board)

eventaully got it alined (it was in raid 0) booted up to windows..

then i apoxed (5min stuf) the crap out of it (you can't use the sata power) just the old style molex power.

now it stronger that a standard connection- super tuff - ultra reliable--- but no warrenty anymore...

I was just doing some research and read the the part I broke is part of the logic board and isn't fixable. I also read that it is replacable, however, buy taking the board out of a new drive of the same type. Is this possible? If this is the case, I'm thinking I could buy a new drive (which I'll be doing anyway if I can't get this fixed), take out the logic board and put it in the broken drive, and put the "fixed" drive back in my system. I'm really more concerned about my data than I am about just getting a new hard drive. Any suggestions/knowledge to share?

On the attached image, for clarity, it's the "L"-shaped plastic part of the SATA power connector (the one on the left) that I broke...the pins are still intact.

cant you use the molex power- insted of the sata power? wd drives give you 2 power options....

(you could perm bond the old (broken pcb) and a (moled to sata ) power adapter..

(use 5 min apox) - you have to align the power sstata plug and the power pins (strips) + broken pcb board..

(it takes a while- but when you get it perfect) (apox it) the adaptor to the hdd (not your psu plugs)

or just you the molex power connector if you have the option on the segate drive?

*sigh* They already said like 3 times that the drive does NOT have a molex power connector. It ONLY has the POWER CONNECTOR FOR SATA DRIVES.

Have you tried calling/e-mailing Seagate? Maybe they will let you RMA it, or give you a quick fix for it? If you try and mess with it, it might void your warranty, if it hasn't already been voided by the initial break

dude... i say use a sata (converter) and apoxy it.........

like i did with my sata connector..

(as of warrenty) you could try , but from experience, any breaks in the sata areas are a (no warrenty given)..

it happens even to professional pc oem builders,(major re-supplers(stockers) of hdd etc.. (they wount cover them even if they turn over in hdd are over 1million a month, the makers just say no.
