Paypal

Did you guys know that bank transfers are no longer free.

In order for the transfer to be free you have to say it is a personnel transaction, like a gift or money owed.

What a bunch of BS

There are still fees, even with a "gift".

At least in Canada.

It sucks, but there aren't any alternatives that are widely supported. Even Google Checkout's fees are very similar to Paypal's.

It sounds like a huge pain to actually get money into your account though.
Quote:
How to instruct a bank transfer to fund my Moneybookers account?
Step 1: Get the bank details for the transaction:
================================================== ====
Go to: 'Upload Funds' > choose bank transfer as a payment method > You will be provided with bank details.
================================================== ====
Step 2: You need to submit these details to your bank and instruct it to transfer the funds to the bank account of Moneybookers. Please do not forget to state your customer ID in the reference field of the transaction. In case you can communicate with your bank via online banking, we recommend initiating the transfer directly online to speed up the payment process.
Step 3: The funds should be in your Moneybookers account a few days later.

Please note: we do NOT debit your bank account directly, you must instruct your bank yourself to do this transfer.
It also costs $2.81 to withdraw from the account, whereas Paypal charges $0-0.50.

well a pain not when your acustomed to it.. and yeahh some small fee but there an escrow security feature and stuff that paypal does not guarantee ... so id take the small fee if they can secure my cash dont you think??

Quote:
Buyers

  • All payments are guaranteed by Moneybookers' unique secure payment system, there is no charge back risk to worry about.
  • A special security deposit of 2% paid by the buyer will ensure his swift action in the acceptance procedure - it is only released back to the buyer after successful completion of the transaction.
  • All shipments are tracked to ensure the buyer received the merchandise.
  • Moneybookers' proven verification procedures allow fast identification and prosecution of fraudsters.

Sellers

  • The seller does not get paid until the buyer accepts the merchandise or the inspection period expires.
  • If the merchandise is fraudulent, it gives the buyer the chance to return the merchandise and cancel the transaction.
  • All shipments are tracked to ensure the seller shipped the merchandise.
  • Moneybookers' proven verification procedures allow fast identification and prosecution of fraudsters.

If you're talking purely about auctions, then yes, a small fee may be worth it.

However, I use Paypal for more than just auctions. I make roughly $250 a month through Paypal, and withdraw 4 times a month. That ends up being $2.00 in withdrawals through Paypal, and that would be over $11 with Moneybookers which I don't believe I could use anyway.

I have been using PP since 2000, it didn't take long before I had to upgrade to a premier account and pay fees on all my transactions. I do use a PP debit card to get funds out of my account so I don't do transfers to my bank at all anymore. To me the fees are well worth the service I'm getting, plus I do get a small cash back allowance on all PP debit card purchases. I've never had any problems with using PP and they got $300 back for me from a bad deal on Ebay a few years ago. It may just be me, but I don't understand why people ***** about having to pay a fee for using PP or any other service.... I would be more suspicious of some site offering all the services for free. There are alternatives to PP, none that I would trust, but if you think everything in the world should be given to you for free, then maybe you should try one.

Thank you for contacting PayPal. Hello, my name is Marissa.

The seller was charge for a fee even though you used a bank account for
transaction because every time a seller accept payments PayPal will
deduct a receiving charge of 2.9% + .30c no matter what funding source
the buyer will use.

The only time that the recipient will not be charge if the sender uses a
bank account is if it is a personal payment.

Don't forget, we're always around if you need us. Just click "Help" in
the top right corner of any PayPal page to visit our improved Help
Center.

Sincerely,
Marissa

honestly, they deserve it. i got scammed twice on ebay in the past year. one was that incident i posted about the LCD screen, recovered $100+ from paypal. second one was a long while back, someone filed a chargeback on their card after i shipped the item but paypal paid me anyways. for the level of protection they provide, the fees arent unreasonable at all.

I just got tired of having to jump through hoops that kept getting smaller, and smaller, and smaller in order to get free x-fers to / from my PayPal account, so I just went ahead and upgraded to a merchant account. I don't mind paying the 2.9% fee since I no longer pay the 7% or so to sell on FleeceBay.
