Newegg Open Box prices much higher than usual

I'm sure I can't be the only one to notice this, but yesterday I checked out Newegg's OB section as I have done for the past many years searching for good deals and usually there are quite a few. There's always a great mark down applied to video cards, CPU's, motherboards, etc. and I always find something. I noticed however, that when checking it yesterday that the OB prices had been raised by a very large amount. For example, I bought a Sapphire 4850 x2 2GB video card OB from them maybe 3 weeks ago for $145. Yesterday, it was there for $239? Also, they have several 4890's which is not unusual but they are all well over $200 where historically they were selling for less than $150. This carries over to CPU's and LCD's as well, it seems all OB prices have taken a huge hike to where it's not even worth it anymore. Anyone else noticed this change?

Checked to see if that 4850 x2 was indeed that price but there were no 4850x2's in OB to begin with. Maybe they were just getting rid of them. All i saw were some 512's and a 1 gig. But they all were singles.

OB were typically like a 15-30% discount? It is probably dependent upon the retail price. If the retail cards are being phased out, the price may be going up.

I would look at some other OB items and compare the price to retail to see what the discount is. If it's only 5%-10% then they have definitely gone up.

Right, that was yesterday.

Take this for example, this Asus 4890 1Gb card, listed NEW

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121308

And here is the OB one - Same price, and you don't even get the MIR on the OB!

Is somebody asleep at the wheel over there?

D@mn computerized pricing is probably the problem, as they quickly sold out at lower prices the program automatically raises the price until sales suffer, then lowers them again as required to meet the programs instructions.

I just got a open box Biostar TA790GX A3+ for $78 and new they're $125 so that's a 38% discount. And it even had all the accessories, although that's not always the case.

I agree though, sometimes New Egg offers discounts, combo deals and free shipping on new hardware that makes the open box pricing seem not worth it.

You know, I am not really sure what logic they use for the discounts, but it obviously has problems. It might be manually input at a static price. If the auto price drops it below the static price, it's no longer a deal.

Here is one example I could find that is a sizable discount: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...760G&x=32&y=34
$79.99 - $46.99 -> that's a 41% savings.

If you really want to know for sure, ask them about it. Maybe you can negotiate a price.

Yeah, exactly. Some things are still a substantial deal, others just make me very confused. I did think about contacting them on Monday, and seeing what was up. Could be they are just not aware, but a discount would be pretty sweet too
