General mouse question

While ago i had a job with an old lady to fix her comp. One of her "tid-bits" was moving the mouse back and fourth really fast made it go faster. I told my dad this couldn't be true but he really wanted me to post on here. For the sake of his curiousity, is this even true.

Yes, it's caller pointer acceleration, though generally it involves the distance you move the mouse and not how fast you move it.

The farther you move the mouse the faster the pointer moves on the screen. You can set both speed and threshold.

Check your mouse settings as well as the much under-used help files for both Windows and your mouse software.

Sometimes I've noticed that pressing Caps lock on and off makes old PC's go "faster", but what it PROBABLY does is just occupy your mind with something else, so it seems to go faster.

Could it be when she is scrolling in a document? I know that when I am in some programs and I'm selecting text if I move the mouse from side to side it will select and scroll faster then if I just leave it.

I dont think he's talking about making the computer faster...
I think he's talking about a mouse scrolling feature that depends on the mouse driver/software. Some mice allow faster scrolling the longer you scroll with the wheel. some dont...

I am talking about her loading up a program at desktop and moving the mouse side to side. Her hdd is OLD!!!!! AND SLOW!!!!! so it takes minutes to load anything. I guess i made my first post sound like i meant the speed of the mouse.

Additional Comment:

Opposite maxgull, computer speed. Well, not really me but she thinks so and my dad got curious and made me post this on here. Although now i am doubting if it actually does speed the comp up or not. I would assume it didin't though not by some of these posts, got me thinking it can.
