Buy now or wait until january sales

After paying off the debts and working for nothing. Im becoming itchy to spend some of my pound sterling. Im seing some great deals allready.
Im looking at maybe another 4870, in the uk ive seen them now for £98 including Dirt 2 game.
Or maybe a c3 stepping CPU but there not too easy to come by but the same price as the c2 anyway.

A new monitor would be nice aswell?

or a set of raid drives lol.

My santa sack is huge. I want all the toys lol,

But as this is the most imporant time of the year the question begs when do you bite the festive bullit and what reductions and deals are we gonna be seeing after xmas if not before

waiting is always a good idea, now more than ever, because of the following reasons: xmas prices, and availability of ati cards. so yeah, wait, if you hold out until january you will be glad you did not buy anything now.
I also wanted a laptop for xmas, but I will wait because the mobile hd5000's have been rescheduled for q1 2010...

I am in the same boat as you man. I wanna get a new video card, a quad for my 775 and some more hard drive space plus a new 24 inch or higher monitor. I can't get all that so I have decided I wanna get a new video card followed by a monitor or a Q9550.

Def wait until after the new years. Prices are just getting outrageous for the 5850 or 5870

I was looking at a 5770 but not enough performance for me, I mean it looks good and all but i think the 128bit bus crippled what it actually should have been. I 'd get more enjoyment out of a 5850, I believe. Plus if you wait you the 2gb version might be released by then

or maybe they have been listening to everoynes complaints about the 5770 and hopefully release a 5770 256bit bus for 200 - 225!

lol I know right. We all have been waiting, some more patiently than others

I would love to see some reviews at least or some solid leaked info about nvidias offerings, but I think everybody here at eocf thinks the same lol

i dont have much hope for it. if the fermi is a solid platform, engineering samples would be handed out a month ago if its due for release in q1. just think about the g80 season when everyone was freaking out about the nvidia performance like 3-4 months before the card was available in stores.

i have a feeling theyre oriented towards gpgpu more than gamer market now. theyre using their branding and marketing to sell their products instead of competitive performance. because majority of buyers arent as smart as we are and read solid reviews. anyways, i hope were all gonna be up for a surprise when review samples are handed out in the near future.

Whats the deal on the 120hz monitors, Are they native 120hz?
I dont think after xmas i will be able to afford to jump on the 5 series cards.
I was thinking 2 4870`s in crossfire is still awesome performance for a 1080p monitor.
Add that with 120hz games are gonna be like butter I wont of seen since using a CRT.

+1 one that, just installed Windows 7 on the Vertex and have had a T260HD for quite a while ... they're both pretty sweet.

I'm shying away due to the cost to buy the additional monitors, and a videocard capable of doing eyefinity games at acceptable FPS.
