19-24" Lcd

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good LCD 19-24" I do some gaming and some photo work, and a good bit of web design and server administration. I need a good high resolution monitor that has decent viewing angles and accurate color reproduction... So no TN panels please ... I have around a $200 ( now raised to $350 ) dollar budget and would like at least 1680X1050 and would prefer an HDMI input however as long as it's got DVI it's fine ( my GFX card does not have a display port output. ) I would prefer a non-glossy picture however I will take color quality over screen type.

thanks guys,
Phil

those are some good looking monitors, however they all have TN panels and are only about 76% on the color reproduction.

You won't find a monitor with a better than TN panel for $200.

check this site out for LOTS of info and comparisons:

Alright, well I guess that I can't get anything but a TN panel for my budget so now I have a few more questions.

Does anyone have a monitor like this?
http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=7a2n9pAER8FfOuLy
How does it perform? Is the glossy screen hard to read off of? Does the TN panel accurately reproduce colors and gray scale?

I am going from a really nice high resolution CRT (1800X1440) which was amazing, I really want something that has good gray scale, and not over boasted colors.

Thank you for the information. I have spent some time on the website that you have linked too however I can't seem to find those any of those monitors on the e-tailers that I normally buy from, ( newegg, tiger direct, zipzoomfly) is there somewhere else I should be looking?

EspoNation and leprechanmonkie do you have any of those monitors that you linked to? If so, what are your complaints about them? and could you also give your favorite features?

Thank you all once again, I hate to be so picky but I normally keep a monitors until it breaks and I want to know that I have bought something decent.

If I where to toss another $100-150 dollars at this would I be able to get a decent IPS or VA panel I would prefer IPS but I would have no problem with a VA panel. So I guess if you had a $300-350 USD(shipped) to get a over 19 inch or larger monitor what would you get? ( this is driving me insane by the way I have gone to multiple stores to find something other than a TN panel and not only did I not find any.... no one knew what I was talking about, all I could think of is maybe they made a thiner CRT that would fit where I need it to < thinks he's losing it. > ...)

what about this one?

About the asus monitor, i have heard bad things about asus monitors coming with 4-6 dead pixels or more, and asus being a pain to deal with regarding the warranty policy.

That said, i own the hanns-g 25 (or 24.5 whatever) and it arrived with 0 dead pixels. Screen is in immaculate shape, decent stand (albeit basic).

HDMI and D-SUB look great at 1920x1080. Gaming is awesome. The screen at usual distance fills most of your view, great for the FPS i have played.

It has a slight backlight bleed around the bottom and top, only visible on a totally black screen. Even dark movies it is unnoticeable (Sin City blu ray was INCREDIBLE on here)

I absolutely love this monitor, i payed 200 for it.

You may wanna grab one of these if you are getting a 1080p monitor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Tpk=27-106-326

edit: another little thing you may not like about the hanns g is that the buttons are on the bottom. Honestly, they are easy and after having it 1 day you know where they are, and how often do you really play with the buttons on there

Latest TN panels are better than before. Colors are more rich than before. I use a Samsung T240 and it's been a marvelous TN panel to now.

(NewEgg is flakey tonight) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236052 My friend bought that screen and it's basically on-par with my Samsung T240, at 2/3 the price. In fact Im trying to sell my T240 locally to buy two or three of ASUS' lower-sized 1080P monitors.

A negative point with TN panels is, as you know, viewing angles, but I use that negative point to spot near-white spots on a white background when working on a picture. Might look weird but hey it works

ok it is true TN panels do not have the same accuracy when it comes to color reproduction, and they never will, because they do 6 bit per color channel opposed to pva / ips 8 bit per channel.

However, have you heard of LED backlit displays? That backlight is more even, more white and potentially brighter than CCFL backlight. (also LEDs live longer, dont fade as fast as CCFLs and consume less power) I looked at monitors next to each other, one eizo with pva panel and one I think it was Samsung or LG with TN + LED, and the one with LED gave a much nicer picture - more contrast, more brightness, the picture was just more crisp. I think that is what you need, ythe1300.

Here's those that newegg has: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...srchInDesc=LED
although there are more monitors that have LED backlight. AOC has one, BenQ, Samsung, Dell are others. These are the specific models that come with LED backlight here in Germany (and 1680x1050 resolution and higher, sorted by approximate price):
BenQ G2222HDL
AOC V22 Verfino <-- good value
Dell UltraSharp G2210
BenQ V2200 Eco / V2210 Eco
Acer V3 Value V243HLbmd
LG Flatron W2286L
BenQ G2420HDBL
BenQ V2400 Eco / V2410 Eco
Dell UltraSharp G2410 <-- very good picture
Samsung SyncMaster XL2370 LED <-- winner
LG Flatron W2486L
Acer Slim Line S243HLbmii
ViewSonic VLED221wm

some models might not be available in the US, but others might be that are not available here...

Odanez, There are many people who love the LED backlight units, however I am not one of them. they have odd colors to me ( the cold hues the bavklight outputs drives me crazy, it just dosen't feel right to me. ) that being said they output some crazy hugh contrast ratios.

That Dell that I posted is and eIPS panel I think it's the one I'm going to get, I have found places on the web that say I should be able to get it for about $238... Wish me luck.

Thanks for everything guys,

Phil

Don't get anything except a Dell S2409W

24'' @ 1920x1080

I paid $219 and I'm extremely picky about monitors, I actually prefer this one to my 22'' Lacie CRT

Rather than make my own, similar thread, I'll piggyback this one.

I'm in the same boat as ythe1300. I'm looking for a 24" (1920x1200 or 1920x1080) LCD up to $350. Any information that would help ythe1300 would help me, and vice versa.

If you look around on ebay ( i know HORRORS) but if you actaully take time do it you can find really good deals. I got my current screen; Samsung 27in 2693HM, for $200 shipped. And it was like brand new..non of the packaging had been opened. So i saved like 200-300 right there

Okay, so far I have gotten to use my 2209WAs for a few hours and I have to say I am quite pleased I have not adjusted them yet, however the out of the box settings seem to do a very good job with accuracy and after playing a few hours of Crysis I'm going to give it a + on gaming . Don't consider this a comprehensive test / more to come later.

just got myself two 24" Dell G2410s after reading nearly every review about it which were all positive.

Out of the box they are very good, After abit of adjustment the colour accuracy is exceptional. Im used to VA or IPS panels but in terms of colour accuracy this is right up there with the best which is surprising because i havent used a TN panel in a while but these are definitely worth looking at.

Heres the CNET review which has a fair amount of info on the monitor.

If you expand your budget a little bit you might be able to squeeze in 3 22" 1920X1080 displays for Eyefinity

I can't afford three new 24", although I was thinking about two more 20.1" for $300 plus the adapter.
