Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9800SE Review @ EOC

Most of the video cards we have been reviewing are based on the fastest graphics chipsets such as the Radeon 9800 Pro or the GeForce FX5900 Ultra. Even though both ATi and NVIDIA have released newer, faster cards, the 9800 Pro and FX 5900 Ultra are both blindingly fast. Today we will be reviewing the much more affordable Radeon 9800SE from Sapphire. The 9800 SE is more than a hundred dollars cheaper than the 9800 Pro but should provide enough performance for gamers and enthusiasts.

Well, in terms of price, I guess it performs how it's suppossed to... I think it's rather pointless to bring out another card just to create more options rather than improve anything.

They are just targeting all sections of the market. If you soft mod the card, you can really get you $$$ worth but I did not test this card to see if it was doable.

Ok, I've own this card for about a month, and here is my review:

Personally I don't think this card should be called a Radeon 9800.. I know is a SE, but the performace is VERY weak to be included in the 9800 family... used Default (cd) drivers, the latest Omega Normal drivers, and Omega softmod drivers.

Default CD drivers my benchmark score on 3DMark2003 was around 2800.

Latest Omega Normal Drivers 3DMark2003 score was around 2900

Latest Omega Softmod drivers 3DMark2003 score was around 3800 (artifacts existed hardcore switched back to Omega Normal Drivers)

[test done on a Pentium 4 800mhz bus 875p, 2.8c ghz processor, 512ram)

Currently Im using the Omega Normal drivers overclocked and my 3DMarkscore is 3269
default Engine clock = 324.00
default Memory clock = 270.00

OVERCLOCKED:
engine clock = 380.25
memory = 299.25

even if you tried, the card wont softmod to a 9800 because of the memory layout..

Over clocking again! (view my first post above)

Now I've over clocked to:

Engine 390.00mhz
Memory 320.00mhz

and my 3DMark Score is 3430, everything is still stable, how much higher do you think I can over-clock it??

remember, default settings are 324.00 and 270.00
