2 Instances of Folding at home on 1 PC

This will work for FT or non HT so have at it if you want to

just make 2 folders (I will use program files for mine but anywhere works fine)

folder 1 E:\Program Files\Folding@Home1
folder 2 E:\Program Files\Folding@Home2

now D/L the Console to each folder

Next create a shortcut to each console exe file

so you have F@H1 and F@H2 for the shortcut names

right click and goto properties on each and add -advmethods -forcesse -local -verbosity 9 to each in the target field so they look like so

F@H1 target line = "E:\Program Files\Folding@Home1\FAH4Console.exe" -advmethods -local -forcesse -verbosity 9
F@H2 target line = "E:\Program Files\Folding@Home2\FAH4Console.exe" -advmethods -local -forcesse -verbosity 9

apply and ok out of both now move those shortcuts to the startup folder so folding will start when you bootup

reboot

now you have to answer the questions for each instance of folding

F@H1

F@H2

answer the questions just like I did except you can use idle instead of low for core priority if you want to

and there ya have it two instances of folding on a HT rig or none HT rig. BTW this will work the same for a dualie or quad CPU machine just use Machine ID #'s that are diferent for every instance and you can run up to 8 instances of folding on 1 PC

so when you fold do you have to enter in that information each time you start the program?

ok that would have been rather silly if you had to enter that in each time.

Well is it better to do that, or to use all the cpu power on one folding program? I guess maybe thiswould help a little bit, but you would have to have two accounts right?

depends

do you have conecting issues ? if yes 2 is better

do you have dial up ? if yes 2 is better

either way you will get just a tiny bit more points per month with 2 over 1

Yes, but take note to use it only on faster machines (say >1.5GHz ?) and are folding 24/7. Otherwise deadlines will come into play here.

On some proteins like the 72x/73x which have lots of lapses in processing, the spare cycles can be used by the other client.

when i moved the shortcuts to the startup thing, i only got one thing when i boot up (or is there only one?), then it goes through the stuff in the pic w/o asking me anything.

i used HideIt b/c it seemed like it used less memory, but at least it works, thanks!

how many F@H are u running per setup?

oh ya the 2 cpu F@H thingy got my temps up from 41c to 45c. it's not bad but at least it shows there was cpu usage not being used.

well i stopped the other folding program. My first porgram was slowing up way too much and for a WU that would take 2 and a half days was going to take up to four days. so until i either overclock or upgrade the PC i am just going to leave the the second core on stand-by.
