Question Cooling question (waterblocked 980)

Alright, so I have a EVGA 980 FTW I got late 2015.
It's been pretty good to me, I dont usually have it overclocked and when I do its like just a +100 clock and thats it.

As of yesterday I decided to embark on a journey to see what this card REALLY has. I honestly haven't been running stress tests, I just been running 3dmark scores.

I got up to:
+140 core
+100 mem
w/ +0 mV

I tried +160 core a few times (with and without mem oc) and it wasn't happening so I dropped the mem back to +0 and was thinking about bumping up the volts finally.

Here is my question: I had to get a EKWB waterblock that ISN'T a full block, its just the CPU. This particular card doesn't have a full block...
The WHOLE time I've had this card I've been running it just fine with just the front plate that goes over the whole bottom of the card (cooling the VRAM and other stuff) There is no heatsinks (that isn't the plate) or fans.

Is turning up the mV going to make the unprotected part of the card dangerous to break or is that just turning up heat on the waterblocked processor?

And does that also mean I should lay off the mem overclock since its just that plate? Because honestly it isn't providing a giant difference in 3dmark anyhow.

Just don't add voltage to the vram. You'll be fine. Blow some air across the card. Watch your temp.
