DDR-3 weirdness

Have had some GSkill F3-1866C8D-16GTX in the EVGA Z87 rig and for the past couple years it was working well. One day I pushed the power button and the rig would begin to post then shut down then on again. Would repeat this until I did a hard shut down from the PS. Did the usual by re-seating everything and it would work. Then on X times later it would do the on-off routine. Ran Memtest for 2 full passes and it didn't have any errors.

Still thinking it was memory I put in the back-up G Skill F3-2400C10D-8GTX
and it's been stable. Same memory slots so I don't feel it is the mobo.

Two passes is not enough, at least 6, iirc. Although, a computer powering down like that, usually points to overheating. Re-tim, the cpu.
