windows sound issue in games

This is weird, but i have 2 games installed at the moment and both are missing one channel of audio. Some voices can be heard but others not. Lips move, dialog i know was there before having played both games when i COULD hear them is no longer there. Yet it's not in the game menus and it's not that one side of the stereo doesn't work because they do. I get sound from both speakers IN STEREO when i play music and in the games there is audio in both speakers, just not certain dialog. Any ideas? windows 7, 2.1 speaker system. (stereo and sub)

I've had issues with surround sound settings clipping voices before. I would open the game in a window then change my sound card settings until it began working again. My issue had something to do with the decoder selected in the sound panel not being compatible with the audio of the game. Now I use a xonar card so I can't speak to the particulars of your issue, but maybe the principal is the same.
