Is this a great card, or just hype?

I mean 4096 Bit?

4096 bit because of HBM, GPU and memory share an interposer, and the memory is stacked around the GPU, basically shedloads of bandwidth.

Card is good, didn't really show it's true colors until some of those Vulkan and DX12 titles released, now it's showing it's full potential. AMD builds in a lot of idle hardware into their GPUs, and it's now just getting taken advantage of.

Not a bad card, but I wouldn't spend your money on one now. Both Big Pascal and Vega will be using HBM2, offering same bandwidth, but double the memory available.

Ya, I have not been up to times as of late.

Thanks for filling me in guy's.

I also haven't updated SIG my dell hasn't been used in a while now. Pretty much same system, but using a 32" lg LCD TV lately. I was also able to revive my gtx 580. Been running strong now for a while. I was baking it at like 375 for 9 min, but it wasn't lasting long. I tried 400 F for 10 min and its doing just fine.

I play pretty much anything from dreamfall to heavy modded Skyrim, fallout 4 and such at 1920-1080

I have zero brand loyalty. Before the 970's I had a 980 Ti, three 290x's, etc. I just think the 1060 is the mainstream card of choice at the moment and if he wants to step up a little higher the 1070 is perfect.

I agree on the 1070 (although more expensive) Choosing between the 1060 and the 480 for me was quite simple, no SLI on the 1060 at all, Crossfire no problem on the 480, so future upgrades are more interesting with the 480 in that price range.
Sure, if you have the extra $150, go for a 1070.

480 has been nipping at and even surpassing the 1060 as of late, like most AMD GPUs in recent history it only gets better as they squeeze more and more performance out of it. If it were between those two the 480 wins hands down for me.

That said you can find 1070s cheapish so that might be worth it.

I'm holding out for vega and hoping it delivers at 1080/1080ti performance at a much more affordable price. Probably closer to the realm of 1070-1080 performance though.

Watch for 1060's on sale, they've been dropping. Buddy of mine picked his up from the egg for $180 shipped and it came with 2 free games. Hard to beat IMO.
