ssd sata cable

does anyone else have problems with their sata cable coming disconnected during normal use?

this has happened to me alot lately, the system becomes unresponsive and eventually crashes, and then the bios wont even see the drive until i open the case and wiggle it a bit.

the cable has always felt a little loose on it, but this is getting ridiculous.

any advice?

edit: i have tried every cable i have and they all are loose on the plug.

This has never happened to me before. Does this occur with every drive or just this one?

I totally feel you. Last time this happened I got so frustrated, I glued the cable to the sata port on the mobo. I could never understand why it did this, and did not find a solution other than gluing. That was on my last build, and I have not had this problem lately, but I remember it driving me mad.

Glued to motherboard LOL. You have to be joking. You can get SATA cables with retention clips. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812123163

all my sata cables look like that, and have those retention clips, they just wont hold this drive for some reason.

Rip a piece of paper to fit inside the sata cable, bend the paper around the back and plug the cable into the ssd. This should help wedge it on. Make sure you don't bend the paper around the side with the contacts.

Hard drive's SATA hole is loose (what a whore

). Happened on one of my drives too. Actually the plastic tabs that holds the retaining clips are broken so the cable will come out easily. As suggested you might want to fab up some sort of shim to put around the SATA connecter so its more tight in there.

I've had the same thing happen. I tried to shim it with paper but they're ALWAYS in nearly totally inaccessable places. I threw a rubberband around it and went around the port with it. Looked tacky but it worked for what I needed at the moment.

So did the GF...

I know I just thought I would mention it because they were lose, and that was the only thing I could think of to fix it. Yes I know glue on mobo, but it worked, and never messed up again. lol

A little piece of gorilla tape should help. Glue isn't a bad idea as long as it's not permanent.

well, i wedged a piece of paper in between the drive and the plug on the no contact side, and its on there good now, i will report back if it happens again.

well, knock on wood, but all is good so far, usually i would have had to open the case and fix the cable again, so i think it has been at least temporarily fixed, thanks to all who helped

100 MPH tape held the hood and most of our stock car racer. Used it everywhere, patched hoses, wrapped around anything slippery you name it, and it stayed put.

so i dont know if its related to what i had going on, but this freakin drive failed again!!!!
im sending it to adata, and maybe third times the charm and this one will work great, who knows.
