Battlefield 4? WTH?

So I just got an email from EA about special offers.

BATTLEFIELD™ 4 IS COMING. GET ACCESS TO THE EXCLUSIVE BETA WHEN YOU PRE-ORDER MEDAL OF HONOR™ WARFIGHTER*.
Seriously? Bf4 already? Has EA decided to just totally feck up the franchise by trying to go CoD style yearly releases with it? Seems to me it was a great idea for me to not purchase BF3 after playing the beta. To many annoyances in design put me off (eg; "flashlight" scopes ) and the level design wasnt up to much compared to old BF maps.

But anyhoo Bf4, who wudathunkit.

I honestly dont think thats the case. EA havent sent me beta offers for titles when the beta is over a year away. The ones Ive been mailed have been in the 6-8 month region. If there is some kind of press or statement please feel free to correct me.

this is the official line.

Remember, CoD can do the yearly release game because it's developed by two different studios on alternating years. So really, there's a two year development cycle, but you wind up with yearly releases. I wouldn't imagine DICE could crank out full BF releases yearly by itself, especially since they have two more DLC's for BF3 still in the works.

However, something to keep in mind is that there pretty much was a new BF game yearly, or at least every other year, since the original BF1942 waaaay back in 2002. They just didn't all increment the number, or were sub-games like Bad Company. It's possible that EA has just decided to say screw it, and call them all numbered BF titles.

Also, it would be more appropriate to say they're going Medal of Honor rather than CoD
