Hi all. So I am wondering what is the answer to the original post? I too will be running an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z with and AMD-FX8350. I've been looking at a variety of RAM but haven't settled on any yet. I'm looking to run 32GB. This will either be a straight 32 system memory setup or I'll split between 16GB system memory and a 16GB RAM disk. Based on this conversation it seems like faster memory is not necessarily the answer for best performance. Here are the kits I've been looking at. Maybe the best kit is not any of these. Any input would be appreciated!

That's probably enough kits to start with. I'm not worried about looks or brand. I'm just looking for what will work the best and the most reliably at stock speeds and if I OC.

I'd pick the 3rd or 4th link on the list. Run no less than PC-14900 with that CPU. Link 4 is PC-14900 and is a little cheaper than link 3 PC-17000 at 59$ more. The 14900 should OC to PC-17000 speeds.

I had actually bought that 4th set and was going to send it back because it has "Designed for Intel" all over the package and no mention of AMD. Even GSkill's website has only Intel boards listed under their qualified motherboard list. But they do list the FX CPU in the CPU section. So you would say these probably the best to use? I have no other issues a kit other than the 4 listed.

Additional Comment:

Hmm. NewEgg just got Tridents back in stock. Think these are better than the Ripjaw Z's?

Psssst........same chips, just higher voltage on the Tridents to allow the tighter CAS.

Don't tell.

Does that mean they are worth the extra $20 for a system running an FX-8350? According to this thread it sounds like a tighter CAS is more important than the RAM speed. But if these are the same chips theoretically I can get the same performance out of the Ripjaws right?

Yes. That's what I'm saying.
Run the Rips at 1.6v and they'll do the CAS 8.

i just bought a crosshair v z and an 8350... im thinking about trying out the crucial 1.35v chips... from what cecil posted in his fs thread, these low voltage chips clock like monsters...

my only concern is the headroom on voltage... i was reading the crucial site and apparently they will run 1.35 (assuming your board will support ddr3L) or 1.5...

Additional Comment:

pulled the trigger on these...

Drats! I had until midnight PST to make a decision or lose out on 10% off at NewEgg. I pulled the trigger on the Tridents. I wonder if they will change the order for me in the morn and still give me the 10% off.
