If you read a description of the program, it is basically a virtual graphics card that piggybacks on your existing hardware while reporting whatever options you choose. It seems to have the ability to emulate some functions in software but more likely, it just throws away the requested unsupported render options. If the game needed pixel shader 2.0 (directx 9) and you only had a pixel shader 1.4 graphics card (directx 8), 3D Analyze could help. It can also allow you to launch games with higher requirements by fooling the game into thinking you meet the requirements, though know that you are sacrificing a lot to get there. There's a youtube vid of doom3 running on a low-end laptop...while it is an achievement of sorts, it looked like Quake 2, and it lagged like crazy.

Check out this article: http://www.ign.com/articles/2004/11/...parison?page=2

The takeaway is that the software can't actually *improve* your graphics card's performance, especially if you're using a modern card (which the 8400gs is). The 8400gs supports the necessary functions in most games though its rendering performance is another story.

I have to ask, what do you hope to accomplish by overclocking that system ? I am somewhat familar because i just dumped a freebie system that was based on intel pentium D820. I got it up to 3.4ghz and it was still slow as molasses in January.

my system was snappy at surfing the web (though it had a brand new 320gb sata II WD hard drive) gaming was awful, even with a geforce 470 GTX.

Additional Comment:
