Replace Thermaltake LCS kit with MCP655

Hi,
I currently have a Thermaltake Level 10 LCS case which came with the BigWater 850 kit, and I'd like to replace the pump it came with, with the MCP655. Does anyone know if I can just unscrew the current pump and put in the new pump, i.e. will it fit into the reservoir, and will I have any other issues I need to be aware of?

Thanks

Hi LamboJ and welcome to EOCF. After looking at photos, I think the mcp655 is unlikely to be an exact match for the Thermaltake P500 pump. You should write Thermaltake to be certain. They do make a P500 pump that should fit if your P500 is broken and no longer under warranty.

Thanks for the reply. The pump is under warranty and is functioning currently, but I've already had it replaced once when it broke, and Thermaltake in general seems to have a poor reputation for quality. So I'm looking to replace it with something more reliable. That's why I want to know what pumps will fit my reservoir.

An mcp655 is about $82 before shipping. You could add it to your loop immediately after the Thermaltake pump if you really wanted to but it would only provide backup should the Thermaltake pump fail. You may not see temperature improvement. The disadvantage is the modification of your loop will be harder than starting from scratch. The Thermaltake picture I saw on the P500 pump in a discrete loop is here near the bottom of the page.

If you can't find a better pump to fit, alternatives would include replacing the entire water-cooling system in that case with a Corsair H100 All-in-One for $105 at Amazon. Advantage is no maintenance. An XSPC Raystorm 750 kit with 120.2 RS radiator for $140 is an excellent entry level product. There are kits with a D5/mcp655 for a bit more. They should all cool a CPU well. Good luck.

I'm actually just looking to replace the existing pump, not run it in line. I realize that modifying an existing loop is not ideal, but I'd prefer that to buying a closed system. I currently cool both my CPU and North Bridge, and will probably add a GPU block at some point as well which I can't do with the Corsair H100.

I guess my real question is how do I determine which pumps are compatible with my current reservoir?

You have a very specific question that some tech at Thermaltake should be able to answer. You could also write Swiftech. Please let us know what you learn. Good luck.

I already tried asking Thermaltake, and they said they only recommend their own pumps and told me they couldn't speak about the compatibility of any other manufacturer's pump.

Additional Comment:

Which part of the loop are you referring? The radiator or the water block that I have?

Well, I'm only doing the CPU and NB which it seems to handle fine for now. When I get a GPU block, I'll hopefully have replaced the radiator and pump by then.
