I recently switched from Ubuntu 8.04 to kubuntu 8.10 with my new PC, and it is gorgeous. After a few weeks, I think I am going to keep using it.

Also, is there a linux desktop screenshot/theme thread?

If there isn't, that's a really fine idea. The linux desktop has come leaps and bounds from where it was even a year or two ago and I think linux users and non-linux users alike would benefit from a 'pimp your UI' thread.

+1 for a linux desktop showcase thread.

I think graphical desktops are a waste of system resources that thwart those who use their integrated graphics. It is unlikely that this applys to anyone in here and it doesn't apply to the box I'm typing this post on. My fascination with graphical interface lasts from the time I see it to the time I load a window or an app. That's when I realize that all the swapping is due more to the graphics than to the app especially with linux. I'm seriously into graphic art and it's demanding on a rig. If I need a quarter of a million particles for a lawn or a caveman I don't want someone elses' effects slowing me down. That being said. I guess I'm stuck with GNOME.

Additional Comment:

With all my ranting I forgot to answer the question. Fedora 7 was nice looking.

I like Gnome, I have never liked KDE.
There are other ones I like, but Gnome is the one of choice for me.
