Can't mount windows network

I have been trying to get smaba to run on ubuntu 11.10. as far as i can tell i have done everything correctly. how ever when i select browse network>windows network>SmithHome i get and error saying ubale to mount location.

from the windows machine when i try and map netwrok drive i get unable to acces ensure you spelled the location correctly.

i m able to ping each machine from each other with ip address (fixed address), and from the windows machine i can ping the ubuntu machine with name but i cant ping with name from the linux.

i ahve been using this as a guide, how ever it may be outta date as it quite old. i have tryed posting questions on there forum but i dont get any reply.

any help would be appreciated
