How well does FreeBSD run on a memory stick. I have to get a case for my old desktop still.

I haven't run it off a thumb drive. I know they have memstick.img files on their servers for use for it. I'd imagine it works just as well as the .iso images.

Though they provide a live shell for booting into a system with problems the software is really for installation. It wont be like a linux live cd.

LOL. Windows is actually the OS that has become Unix and Linux like. Most users do not realize how much of the Windows experience has been taken from Unix and Linux distros. As long as Microsoft continues to take the best and most popular ideas from it's competition there will be strong similarities.
