Searching for mailer software.

Alright guys, I know I haven't been here in decades, but here's my issue.

My dad is attempting to start a newsletter/email campaign for his company, and for the past couple of days he's been searching for a mass e-mailer. Basically a piece of software from which he can manage newsletters, send to a wide range of addresses, ect.

Now he owns an IMAP server, but all I/he have been able to find so far are SMTP based mailers that refuse to work with our server. So the question is, do any of you know/use software of this type? I have no idea what businesses normally use, so any hints would be useful.

Most these days outsource it to a SaaS company like Constant Contact or MailChimp.

If you're set on going in alone, first off IMAP is only for incoming mail, not outgoing. In other-words, it controls how you access mail you received, it doesn't send mail. Mail is pretty much only sent via SMTP. Any self-hosted email system consists of an incoming server (IMAP or POP3) and an outgoing server (SMTP). That's why you're not getting the expected search results for your query. For what you're trying to do, you'd probably want something like SendBlaster.

But seriously you're probably better off using one of the SaaS providers above because they manage a lot of other stuff for you.
