I have choppy lag in games with 60 solid FPS...
) and I feel ******ed because I have no idea why the hell it's doing this.I'm aware a failing hard drive can be the issue, and my seek times have been terrible for a WD caviar black 1tb Rev 1.0 (first model that came out) but seatools has passed them with tests Can it be my terrible internet though? We pay $60 a month for 10mbit down, 1mbit up internet, and sometimes it's as bad as .3mbit down, even worse up.. Iv'e had the ISP ping my router at more than 400ms before, and it's a brand new router, brand new modem, my pc has drivers for the router, Iv'e tried configuring settings to make gaming better, the piece of crap won't even port forward no matter how hard I try. a lot of the time we only get 6mbits or less with no one downloading anything and it just seems to not work right, ever. I think my ISP is screwing me over, and who the hell has even HEARD of shentel? We have no other ISP options available where I live. They are a greedy monopoly. I think it might be ATI drivers, but Iv'e tried uninstalling and reinstalling dozens of times, deleting ATI folder and running CC cleaner to delete registries to eliminate any settings, deleted MSI afterburner as well, doesn't really help. Could I have screwed up my GPU permanently by overclocking it to 900mhz core, 1250mhz memory@ 1200mv overvolting using MSI afterburner with upped fan settings? Could it simply be the fact that I have a currupted install of windows 7, even though I'm virus free, and whatnot? Things take longer to load and my computer ends up crunching like mad sometimes (Iv'e ran like 5 disk defrags at least by the way) Could it be that my memory is failing? It's not exactly super stable RAM with overclocking but this never happened before about a month ago so it would be a sudden onset. and I'm only overclocked to 4ghz with a crappy i3 550. I have no win7 install dvd at the moment but when I get one handy I'm going to put my WD cavier blacks back in RAID - 0 and try deleting everythign and re downloading my games and THEN see if it still happens My PSU is failing? making the GPU power starved? this happens on any overclock settings or everything stock. So either my mouse is screwed, one of the above problems, or I'm simply ******ed...Which one could it be? ![]() Edit: oh, my garbage system specs are: -Crappy core i3 550 OCd to 4ghz @ 1.3 vcore Stepping is used to make it last longer -4gb OCZ Reaper X HPC ram that has heatsinks (my Corsair XMS 3 got fried with my old i7 860, and this was from my Q9450 build with the 790 i ultra mobo, 1st gen DDR3 ram works on this board, and it worked fine earlier, like i said, sudden onset) -Gigabyte GA-H55 USB3 Rev 2.0 (ATX version, I had people on OCN tell me I lied about my system specs from a pic once) -BFG 550 watt non modular PSU -HIS Radeon 6950 2gb ICE Q turbo thingy -Antec 300 -2 WD caviar blacks 1tb (first version that came out) not in RAID right now -Cooler Master Hyper 212+ CPU heatsink I got for like $12 Logtiech G15, G13, and the mouse is an Alienware TactX that replaced my old G9 that died on a Steelseries Experience I-2 acid washed glass mouse pad (best tracking Iv'e ever had on a pad, but I had to throw away my old Microsoft sidewinder x8 because it didn't work on the glass, why I have something cheap and effective from the garbage company of Alienware, but it's a rebadged G9x, with a better shell) Truth is, I liked the sensor on my old G9 a lot more. best mouse I ever used :| Last edited by c0reyl : 08-10-2012 at 11:59 AM. |

ok.. TMI! Slow down, breathe, relax, and have a cup of herbal tea..
![]() Trying the 'ol spray fire, and hope to hit something technique 'eh? (jk) ![]() It's ok, you're learning, and your post is descriptive. Trouble shooting is the process of elimination (as you are aware), but it helps if there is a method to the madness... Cause : Effect -Try the game single player, if the problem persist then it's not your internet connection. If the problem does not exist then it's the internet connection or the server(s) you are on. -If the problem does not exist w/ other games, then it's not likely your mouse. Don't you have a cheepo mouse to try? -does the problem go away when you disable v-sync? Let's start there. Cheers, Tomek |

Enabling VSync removes tearing at the cost of picture delay in the render (input is ret4rded). That might be what you feel in-game.

I don't have a cheapo mouse, unless it involves somehow finding a bluetooth dongle to use my mom's apple touch pad mouse lol. Quote:

I recommend going into your graphic control panel, select your game and set the pre-rendered frames from 3 to 0.
I have a feeling that might be the cause. |

Oh, and I put in my windows install dvd, then reformatted all the drives, not caring that I lost all my data (nothing to back it up onto) Then rebooted and set my bios to RAID, and the RAID configuration utility only sees ONE of my WD caviar black 1tb drives, but in bios if I set boot device priority, i can see both drives..how is this possible? Then I booted back into the install dvd, and now it says I need the proper cd/dvd driver for the windows installation. so basically I can't install windows and I have everything deleted from my computer, making it a $700 worthless garbage paperweight. |

Triple buffering and pre-rendered frames aren't the same thing.

But I finally realized the reason I couldn't make a raid disk was the fact that for some reason the intel raid SATA ports had the dvd on one of them, and the other WD drive was on a standard SATA port. no idea how tha happened, then I went into RAID utility, and then made a new RAID-0 volume, named WINDOWS full caps incase of incompatibility with naming. Then I kept booting into the windows install dvd. It still wouldn't see my disk drives but after the SATA relocation it didn't ask me for drivers to install anymore. I kept trying, tried deleting my RAID volume, still wouldn't work. Then I turned off the computer, took out the battery and power cord for 5 mins, put it back in and booted up to reset every possible BIOS setting. Then I booted back into the dvd, and it miraculously saw the dvd drives. I reformated them AGAIN, went into BIOS set it to RAID volume then made a new RAID volume again, and booted back into the DVD Then it still didn't see my 2gb new RAID volume. Then I downloaded every possible RAID driver for my mobo from GIGABYTE website and burned it to a cd and selected the dvd drive for loading any drivers and it wouldn't find any to maybe see the raid volume. Then I just set it to IDE mode and gave up on making RAID and booted back into the DVD and then formated both drives and installed on one, booted into it, w7 recognizes my generic WIFI card and now I'm downloading drivers. For my HIS Radeon HD 6950 2gb ICE Q turbo thingy...which driver is better? the 12.7 beta or the 12.6 or what? I'm giving up on RAID completely...if I get stutters still then I'll install on the ither drive and take out the current install drive from my computer and see if it still sutters. Apparently I can't install windows on RAID anymore, or I am ******ed. |

Download RadeoPro
Make a profile for your game Check "Flip Queue Size" and set it to 0 (another name for pre-rendered frame) Check "Force Aggressive API Detection level" Check whatever else you think is necessary... AA, AF, etc. Right click on profile, click Apply settings Then run the game. Should be smooth. Worked for me for Borderland. |

weird, ive never seen choppy game play because of a hard drive. typically the game files / maps are loaded to system memory but i suppose it depends on the game.
I was thinking it might be an overheating issue of the cpu or video, over heating can cause throttle down resulting in choppy game play. glad you got it fixed. |

seatools says my hard drives are fine >_>
But I can no longer install on a RAID setup, meaning my hard drives are slower. At least gaming doesn't make me want to punch my computer in the face anymore :3 |

I didnt like RAID 0 on my two seagate 500gb 7200rpm drives. Sure it had more bandwidth in benchmarking but the access times are slower. I didnt notice games loading up faster, programs opening quicker -- i didnt notice any positive difference actually. just less redunancy
BTW, your core i3 isnt crappy. you should see my gaming PC. Pentium D 920 with geforce 9800gt. scored 6800 on 3dmark06 overclocked lol... |
