Intel Quad Core Server Q4 2006, Quad Core Desktop EE Q1-Q2 2007

Intel Pulling Out All The Stops For Q4 2006 Clovertown Launch
Quote:
Reliable sources said that even though Intel's commit date for its quad core Clovertown microprocessor is in the first quarter of 2007, it is pulling out all the stops to release it in Q4 of this year.

The reason for this is that Intel wants to **** a snook at AMD and show that now it's capable of executing on its plans, and doing so swiftly.

There's already Clovertown silicon and while Intel is promising nothing to its partners, it feels that being able to release a quad core in Q4 will be quite a coup.

Intel Kentsfield is Quad Core Extreme Edition
Quote:
Kentsfield, the next gneration Intel Extreme Edition chip to be launched in mid-07 has been moved up to early 07. On the down side, it is no longer a 45nm part, it is 65nm.

On the up side, it is going to be quad-core. Yeah, you read that right, Intel is going to jump to 4 cores for EE/XE class parts sooner rather than later.

This part is going to be more or less a dual die part very similar to Clovertown, and it will most likely share all of that chip's attributes, FSB, TDP and cache. If it carries the same performance as Clovertown, AMD is going to have to scramble to keep the gaming crown.
