i wanna watercool, advice needed
REQUIREMENTS 1. extremely silent 2. must cool a lot better than air 3. few fans as possible 4. can fit in my case (it's kind full in there) with that being said, here's some questions i got: 1. are the differences between internal and external cooling mean inside and outside of the case? if so, which one would cool better? 2. why would i pick one over the other? 3. what size hose would provide lowest temps (1/2 inch, 3/8 inch, etc) 4. what temps could i possibly get (made vs kit)? 5. i know the cpu and vid card can be cooled, what about ram, hdd, etc? also, would cooling these other components make a difference in ocing and temps? 6. what's a ball park price for the diff parts needed 7. what's the best place to buy? 8. on my vid card, id have to take the fan off to put the block on, right? if so, is that a hard thing to do? 9. my tower is in my pc desk, it gets real hot cuz the hot air keeps getting recirculated. since water uses minimal fans, would this still be a problem? i saw this in someone's sig and thought i'd go with it, would this be good for a 1st timer? "Good: Mag 3 ($40), Whitewater ($50), Heater core (~$20) or DD heater core ($30) shroud, Clearflex 60 or Home Depot tubing, 120mm fan (~$10), and hose clamps. These are just general guidelines, some of you may like to cheap out on tubing, but go crazy on the pump, or do some such thing." thanks in advance to everyone |

1. extremely silent
2. must cool a lot better than air 3. few fans as possible 4. can fit in my case (it's kind full in there) See, now that's impossible. To get extremely silent, you have to get a low performance pump, and low performance fans if you get fans at all. Now, for a passive radiator, it must be MASSIVE. It seems impossible. External cooling will almost always cool better. Internal is easier to move around, and neater. 1/2" tubing is the best for temps, but somewhat harder to work with than 3/8". Based on your requirements, no kit will fulfill that, so DIY is the only way to do it. RAM can't be cooled with a retail solution, and AFAIK only cooling the CPU, GPU and possibly power regulators (once again, no commercial solution) will help with your overclock. Taking a fan off of a VC is easy. Water is still dependant on the ambient temperature. That thing in my sig is a good choice, although the mag 3 isn't completely silent. |

you should have ur comp on a flat table, i do. easy to work on, just take off the panel and turn the case round a bit, and there you have a workbench. and no airflow restrictions.

thank's for the help everyone. i'm about to order the following and would like your opinion. When it comes to the resevoir or the tubing, i'm not exactly sure if buying specific type would even make a difference. getting a bucket and filling it with water would suffice for my res wouldn't it? Also, is pump fittings, clamps and water additives necessary? Lastly, for the radiator, would the black ice outperform the heater core (if so by how much) and how many 120mm fans would u recommend?
PUMP: Hydor L30 320GPH ($44.99) or Eheim 1250 110/120V - 317 GPH ($59.00) WATERBLOCK: Danger Den - RBX ($52.95) or Maze 4 ($34.95) RADIATOR: Black Ice Pro ($50.00) or Heater Core w/ shroud ($42.99) VGA BLOCK: MAZE4GPU ($39.95) *OPTIONAL* TUBING: Not Sure RESERVOIR: Not Sure Extras: AS5, water additives, 120mm fans. thanks for all the help anyone. if u feel something needs to be changed just lemme know. im tryin to stay under $200. |

Sounds good to me. As for the resevoir, I am not going to tell you what to get, I will just tell you what I have and you can make your own conclusions:
http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/mer...uct_Code=93310 It works very well for me, and looks cool on the back of my case mounted on a bracket I made from a Zalman fan thingy, it was one of those fans/brackets that mounts on your pci slot holders(the mounting screws for the cards). Crappy pics, sorry, its late and I am lazy

Waterblock: Go for the RBX
Radiator: Go for the heater core Everything else looks fine. |

Thanks everyone for ur input. few more q's
1. is 10ft of clearflex 60 tubing enough or should i get the tygon stuff? 2. are hose clamps needed? im assuming they lower the chance of the setup leaking. there's a pic of what it looks like. 3. would u recommend getting water wetter? ive read that corrosion can occur, but is it something that happens quickly (like in a month or so)? 4. i have a bunch of 80mm fans, but while reading the forums everyone only mentions 120mm ones. how many should i get and what rpm/DB should i look for? so far this is what im gonna get: PUMP: Hydor L30 320GPH ($44.99) WATERBLOCK: Danger Den - RBX ($52.95) RADIATOR:Heater Core w/ shroud ($42.99) TUBING: 10ft Clearflex 60 ($10.00) RESERVOIR: The resevoir Lando95 mentioned ($25.00) Extras: AS5, Plastic Hose Clamps, 2X120mm fans. (≈$25.00) S&H: $10.10 TOTAL: ≈$186.03 Planning on ordering from DangerDen, but could yall post links to diff sites so i can compare prices id appreciate it. Thanks |

1. If everything is in the case, then 10 feet should be plenty. If you have some sharp bends, go for the Targon, if not, go to Home Depot and get some 1/2'' id 5/8'' od tubing. 10 feet costs around 5 bucks.
2. USE HOSE CLAMPS!!! I dont know about you, but I really dont like frying several hundred dollars worth of equipment. Better safe than sorry man, and yes, those hose clamps will work well. 3. Get Water Wetter. Its cheap at Pep Boys or any auto-parts store, and works well. As for corrosion, I have had zero problems. Only had my setup about 3 months, but works great. 4. You can use one 120mm fan, but personally, I suggest 2 in a push/pull configuration, and if you have enough room, get a shroud on both. You want one that is going to flow >90 cfm. As for db level, its personal taste. I dont mind noise, so I have 4 120mm fans. I am using Sunon fans, but I heard that Panaflo are some good quiet ones. Just do some searching on NewEgg. |

everything looks great, except go to home depot and get a bunch of metal hose clamps (the ones you tighten with a flathead screwdriver). Those are simply the best at preventing leaks. I move my crap around to LANs a lot, and I've never had any leak problems.

TDX is about the same as the RBX, but with one less outlet. Get a Mag 3 rather than a Hydor, for performance/price/quality (pick your reason) although I do not know about the L35.

http://www.aquatictech.com/pumps.html 35 bucks. No, get the TDX, the WW, or the Swiftech MCW-6002 (cheapest and probably the same performance as the TDX, but we don't know yet)
