I just bought a Dell Optiplex for $5

Thanks to a friendly neighborhood yard sale.

The guys said the hard drive was busted and he didnt have any memory for it.

Seems that the MB wasnt recognizing the primary ide channel,so i used the secondary channel and set the HD as master and the cd-rom as slave, added a extra stick of 256mb pc133 memory that i had laying around.

And the thing booted right up.

Its a P3 and its only running at 667 mhz,but every little bit counts and its been folding away since last night.

It should complete one of those 48 point gromacs tommorrow.

The best 5 bucks i ever spent.

Hehe i never would have thought i would say these words but "DUDE,I got a Dell!"

Now thats a good idea too.

I wonder how much i would need for a 400mhz fsb p4 2.8.

That is the fastest 400mhz fsb p4 processor right?

Then i could build another cheapo rig around the old 1.6 that im using now for web surfing and such.

hehe,i didnt know she had hair on her chest...

Edit: actually my dad seen the garage sale and told me about it,i went over there and grabbed up a bunch of stuff.

The Dell Optiplex.

A new ATX tower case no power supply. 5$

2 ps/2 mice for 10 cents each.

A old ARM systems 486,working for $3(figured the hard drive was worth that)

Another desktop case for $3 (might find some use for it) it has a 200 watt power supply and a floppy drive.

A 9 port ethernet 10 Base-2/T hub for $1(i dont know what brand it is and it doesnt have a power adapter, but i opened it up and it says Winbond on the main chip.Ill do some googleing,to try to find the right voltage for it.)

And i got a 6 gig WD Caviar hd for 25 cents he said it wont read sector 0.I havent had the time to fool around with that yet but for a quarter, how can you beat that even if its broken.

I just got lucky on this one.I never, never find deals like this.

He had a zip drive for $5,but i didnt get it because i probably wouldnt have used it.
The people were moving so the guy was trying to get rid of a bunch of extra stuff i guess.

Edit2: i found the voltage it is +5 volts, now all i need is a adapter.

The Lewt!

The first pic is the goods, not counting the 2 boxes in the back right and left.

(The back left one is my other 1.6 and the back right is the lil 533 that folds it heart out)

The second pic is the Optiplex in the center.

Yeah well I got a zip-100 from a garage sale and use it to upload some bigger files to the school's computers since I'm too cheap to go buy cd-r's...

Its too late now,i hope i didnt pass up a good deal. The guy did say that he was suprised that no one had bought it yet though.

Edit:Well since i was taking pics anyway,i had my baby in a new spot so here are the goodz.

I posted the specs somewhere before but it has:

P4 3.20C @ 3.33
2 GB of kingston Hyperx PC 3500
