stupid question

FIrst of all i just want to say that i am not into overclocking...I just wanted to know if a venus 12 cooler will be enough for my 3500?? would a slk-948u(with a good fan), or a xp-120 heatsink improve its performance or make any difference what so ever?? note that my pc wil be only used for gaming.

sorry for the noob question, but this just came to my mind!

thanks guys

Better temps won't help performance unless your overclocking the cpu. Why not just stay with the heatsink that came with the processor ? It should be good enough for stock speeds.

The only reason why you would need to buy a better heatsink is if your temps were getting too high. Your temps are not going to get that high (even under load) running at stock speeds. Just keep the HSF that came with the A64 and spend that money on something else.

screw it...ill keep it just in case....but thanks anyways...if monarch gives me problems with setting the venus 12(because it isnt listed under their list; it is only listed as a component to buy) up for me...ill stick to the stock HSF.
thanks

its your gaming machine, and if your not overclocking and your temps are low, like 45C under full load spend that $30+ shipping on something else, like a game...

you do have a good point there...however i got the games fully covered...
Can i actually overclock with the venus?? It seems too week to o/c...i think it pushes about 73 cfm at full speed(~50dba) and the heatsink looks pretty normal compared to others...i dont think anyone is going to keep it going at 50 dba...

Bro are you gonna overclock or not ? You said in your first post that you are not into overclocking. Make up your mind.

ive overclocking 320mhz on a volcano9, pushing 75cfms at 4800 but fan runs at 5300... idle temp is 42. your venus is much better than my volcano 9. you have a copper HS with either 66 or 72 fins, i have a alum with copper insert HS with 23 fins on each side. thick fins. you would be suprised how many people would keep it at that speed too. i ignore my fans, as the only one that really bugs me is my turbo fan on my Tt giant 3 VGA cooler. 48Dba SWQEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLL!!!!

btw play any good games lately? doom3 is nice but almost no real replay value, and farcry was boring.

lol....Klisp...i was only wondering....320 mhz...thats quite significant...I am very tempted to o/c but i really dont want to take any risks becuase this is my only chance for a pc. Plus i am pretty new to this as you can see.

I Only played the first bits of those games at my LAN shop back in lebanon...that is why i want to get a gaming pc over here...i have a crapload of games that are waiting to be played...

Just start with alittle overclock bro. You won't hurt anything if you don't increase the voltages. Just see how far you can go like that. Then you could have alittle overclock and a peace of mind.

well i started off with a slight oc. then went from there. my ddr 2700 loves 200fsb, but can do 211x11 98% stable. im curently doing 200x11.5 to see if i can hold 2.3ghz stable. its an addiction i tell you. next im gonna water cool and add some ocz eb ram. 1 gig 3700 if i can find it. then ill hopefully get somewhere close to 215-230x11.5, if my powersupply can keep up. taht will get me somewhere in the neihbor hood of 2.5ghz i hope. chances are ill sit at or slightly above 2.4ghz.

just read the guide and read a few articles in the forums. check to see how well your mobo o/cs and look in the forum for your board, also see what your cpu can do. whether its locked or unlocked. read other people setups and ask for theirs as well. soo all the "chinese" (for reference reasons, no offense) apearance of the settings in teh bios will become understandable. also make note of where your 'clear cmos' jumper is, its your freind incase of a error. also holding the insert key while booting will load default bios settings if you go too far. all that will happen if you enter a setting that the comp dont like is it wont boot, so power off, clear cmos and try a different setting.

Does anyone ever need to upgrade their HS or fan for thermal reasons... unless they have CPU temps that are over 50C with case temps of 35C or less???
