Good case temps with limited fans
I have a hole on the bottom of my tower(lifted 3inches off the floor) and one on the side. I have 2x 120mm exhaust fans on the back +psu fan. I cut out the grills so more air would get sucked out of the case. Using TT spark 7+ on my 2.6c with arctic silver(luv it). I have a big case which is very clean inside with no ugly wires ne where. As u know heat rises so i keep my comp in the basement on my hardwood floor. Currently just orderd my arctic vga silencer for my 9800 pro which is only thing keeping my mb temps above 20c(idle). |

.......er........so your question is?
The best air-cooling systems I have seen tend to be around about a 1:1 ratio, ie if you have 2 120mm intake fans, you need 2 120mm exhaust fans etc. however there is also a school of thought that says if you have slightly greater intake pressure than exhaust you'll get less dust. |

Sometimes adding additional is not beneficial because it can disrupt smooth case airflow by creating vortices in the case. For instance, if you have intake in the front and exhaust in the back, a side fan (depending on its location) probably won't help much beacuse it will simply disrupt the flow of air from the front of the case to the back of teh case. I can attest to this personally as removing my side fan actually cooled my case a bit. The point is that you want a well designed airflow system where currents will not interfer with one another in a detrimental manner. An interesting idea that I have seen is to use 6 80mm intake fans (2 front, 2 side, 2 rear) and 2 120mm exhaust fans (top). This way air is blow in in all directions and all of it is funneled in the same direction out of the top of the case.
