I have a P4, 3Ghz, 800fsb. My mobo is a Gigabyte 8knxp rev2, Dual Channel DDR 400 / 333 / 266 up to 4GB. Here my questions. a.) Es best to buy 1GB and latter buy another 1GB? or to buy 2x512MB and latter another 2x512MB? b.) If the mobo is DDR400, can I use faster memory ? and then overclock my CPU? c.) Besides OCZ and Corsair, which memory is good to overclock? d.) Having 2GB RAM is good investment? (I use my Pc to do 3D, video edition, programming, games, photos, audio edition, internet, dvd "backups", etc..) e.) a P4 3Ghz is hotter than a P4 2.8Ghz? I have a Zalman CNPS6500B-AlC, but I want to overclock the P4 3Ghz, is ok this Zalman? f.) It is best memory with good timmings or speedy memory?? help! Sorry for my english, I'm from Texas ;-) |

a) 1 gig is really all you need for most desktop applications
b) yes, you can use any speed of RAM upwards of DDR400 (see my RAM guide for further details )c) These are about the best. Kingston is good, too, for high-end stuff d) see a) e) regardless of clock speed, CPU's with the same cores (i.e. Northwoods or Prescotts) will operate at the same general temps. That cooler isn't in the top 3, but it's not bad. f) for Intel sytems, higher bus speeds are more important than timings. Go for highest FSB first, then worry about timings once you've maxed out the CPU (here again, explained in greater detail in the RAM guide) |

[a] if your board supports dual channel then you need 2 x 512.
[b] yes, in fact its a wise decision to buy higher rated RAM if you plan on OCing. [c] those 2 are the best. [d] depends on who you talk to but id be tempted to stick at 1 Gig for now. [e] use artic silver on the CPU with the zalman and you'll do fine. [f] see [a] and [c]
