The akasa paxpower 460w looks good to me, the specs are consistant, the reviews are good & the 2 +12V rails are a good plus. If it is a good buy in pounds, by all means buy it. It should serve you well.

Better than a single +12V@29A rail, as it provides load & noise isolation. Put the MoBo & everything that plugs into it (Video, PCI) on one rail & everything that has a motor (fans, pumps, drives) or lights on the second rail.

Here you find a large number of reviews, most positive and some negative, many review sites get paid to write the reviews and therefor tend to give positive reviews to almost everything, so look for the negative reviews.

IMHO you have forgot the Englight/Enhance PSU. Basicly those are Server PSU which also come in the destkop version.

Neither the first or third links give the output specs. Anandtech gives +12V@180W = +12V@15A, this is a horrible PS.

For a 460W unit, the ENS-0246 is moderately priced around $85. Unfortunately, this is not a 460W power supply, since 460W seems to be more of its peak rating. More features or higher specifications might have given it the edge.

The Enhance website (USA) shows many PS's, some of which have very good +12V rail ratings, including several with dual +12V rails. There is no doubt that some of these are intended for professional server duty.

My recommendation: Given the vast range offered from older design low end, not so hot consumer models such as the one reviewed by Anandtech, to PS intended for professional server duty, we will have to evaluate each indivual PS on its own merits. We also do this with the "Ultra" line of PS's. Ultra has a long history of producing sub-standard PS's, however their Ultra X-Connect 500W is recommended as this model is of high quality modern design & construction.

David, what "exactly" is a "switching PSU" I have googled it and found alot PSU's that are "switching PSU's" but no one explained what they are. Is this a stupid question or am I just mal-informed? Also, directron has the Super Flower TTGI TT550SS on sale for $54.99 + S/H.

Was wondering ... anyone know the regulation specs on that Super Flower 350w
lynked above? Was looking at the web page but couldn't find anything.

Specs on the label aside ... (about useless anyway ) any idea how they
would compare to the Fortron/Sparkle? I've been extremely impressed with
what the 300w models (single +12v rail) can handle and still remain within 2%.
There was one review that had the Fortron 350w holding a tighter range than the
Enermax 460w which cost over twice as much.

Oh, BTW ... you left out the PCP&C 425 deluxe from the premium choices
above^. Some of the specs are more impressive than the 510dlx.

They meet the AMD specs of +/-5%, that is all and often the rails need adjustment when purchased (easy to do), they are well built & the newer ones are well designed, but to meet their price point they don't spend much time setting-up the PS before sale. A great "BANG for the BUCK", but only on their newer models.

Rosewill has a history of selling rebranded sub-standard PS's, the "min hold time" is only 12ms, an indiacation of a lack of "guts" to handle its ratings.

Untill someone we know & trust reports something good about them, I must recommend that you select a proven winner from the guide.
