I think I like the OCZ a bit better though. Want to see the SilenX come down some more.
The Zippy/EMACS are not really ideal for PC's as they are designed for high-end workstations & servers, for example they don't have on/off switches, but do have N+1 fail-over interfaces.

The OCZ PowerStream is IMO the BEST PC, PS going right now, however that monster you linked above should power just about anything short of a mainframe!

I don't mind

Only thing I don't like about the OCZ's is the price of the 600w unit, and I expect that'll change soon enough - the other two current models have gotten pretty reasonable in price fairly fast. Would be nice too if the Modstreams came up to the Powerstream's level... carrying over just the independant voltage regulation of the Powerstream's design alone would make it a whole lot better product than it is now.

If anyone at OCZ is reading this, I really like the idea of Powerstreams with 120mm fans and modular cables

Make sure that your case has enough depth as these are pretty long.

Just a bit of my experience!

I've got an asus A8N with a couple of 6800GTs. Measured from the wall outlet the power draw is around 300W. I've tried the system with a number of PSUs. An Antiec Neopower 480 wouldn't run it without crashes. An OCZ520 would. I'm now using it with an OCZ 600, which absolutely rocks! Looks good, the sleeve cables are easy to get neat, and it seems absolutely rock solid. I know it is always best to mesure voltages with a DMM, but I'm going to post a link to a screenshot of Asus probe, taken after looping 3DMark05 for a while...

link

It just did not move! with any other PSU I've used (The ones mentioned above + Antec 480 Trueblue), there will always be a slight 'wiggle' in the line, denoting small variances... I post this out of suprise at a dead straight line!

BTW been meaning to say it for a while:

Good job Davidhammock200!

Great board by the way. I wish I would of found this board before I bought this:

http://www.thermaltake.com/purepower...0049atx12v.htm

what do you guys think about it. From some of the reviews I found on the net it looks to be a good PSU.

But I do have two questions,

1. Since there are three +12V Rails does this mean that total +12V rail amp = 38?
(+12V1@15A, +12V2@15A and +12V@8A)

2. David you were also going to discuss what the various rails were for and y the amount (dual, triple). Sorry I am new to picking a good PSU and this topic is great!
Also I was planning on using this PSU on my system

A8N
6800GT PCIE (plan on getting secound 1 in a year or so)
A64 3500+
2 SATA 200GB HD
1 DVD Burner DL

I really need an opinion on this. I bought it for 146 shipped from eWiz. If not this PSU then probably the new 510SLI.

The TT's tend to droop their rails under load, however given the ratings on this 680W monster,

you will have a ways to go, before you seriously load its rails.

WHat about small quiet PSU's?

Hi.

Has anyone got any info on small very quiet PSU's yet that can still output decent figures for a top and system?

I am looking for something like a MicroATX supply to fit into a HTPC case (hence the size and noise problems).

Cheers

I'm afraid that as the name of the site is "Extreme Overclocking",

you may not find quit what you are looking for.

Good Luck,
Dave

Totaly understood. This is the second hobby. I can cramb in a lot of gear but can't find a decent power supply. Oh well, the fruitless search goes on.

Edit - What about 2U supplies?

Great thread! I was posting on other sites about a psu. Mine just doesn't put out enough. I guess it is dying as the 12v rail dips below the 10% parameter. I picked up an oem one locally that seems to fit the bill. Thanks for the link on the wat calculator as well.

I like the Antec NeoPower 480W, ATX12 V2.0, dual +12V rails, by far the best of the modulars!
