9800 xt Temp reader

I have a 9800 XT I recently installed an ATI silencer III. I am using the Adavanced options overdrive menue to check the temps. When I had the 9800XT stock fan on it ussualy read 61 to 63 C. After installing the ATI silencer III my temps are still reading 61 C. I know i installed it correctly using proper yhaermal paste I even use the arctic instead of the basic it was shipped with. Is there a chance that the Temp guage is worng or are tyhere any other steps to take for a cooler card???????

well, you could just buy a temp monitor from li-lian or radio shack and those would get you the most accurate readings. After you installed the silencer did you over-clock it more than before you had it? this may be why it is the same then....but I would try a good temp monitor (not on the card) and see what it says.

I really don't see how programs can read off, they take their numbers from the same place so how can they be off. I'm not disagreeing with you Maurice cause I know what you mean, it's just kind of strange and annoying.

well,i forget where i read it,but theres a flaw in the drivers for the cats, and it reads 20 C higher than any other monitor.

with overdrive,my temps said 60-61 with rivatuner,my temp said 39-40C

do a search on it im sure you will find the answer

1. the overdrive temp. moniter is wack...don't trust it...

2. the reason your temps were the same with both is because the stock cooler on the 9800xt's are rather good at stock...but you will notice a big difference in temps when you overclock with it.....(btw, don't use overdrive to oc....)

I used ATI tool but it seams everytime i reboot windows i have to reset the speeds I am getting 445 core and 393 memory is this good or can I do better. I was thinking of upping the violtage to see if I can get a little more. I have it set so theres no artifacts at all as cxlose as it will get to a few small artifacts.

yep overdrive is always 20 degrees more because something about the guage not being exactly on the gpu so it adds 20 degrees.

btw with my 9800xt anyone know why its 87 degrees C at idle? (reading from rivatuner)

ive ordered a new case which has 3 case fans and also an arctic silcener 3 aswell
