FireFox stopped working?!?!

That's basically what's wrong...
FireFox can't connect to the internet.

Internet Explorer works fine. Messengers and Bittorent also.
I haven't changed anything in FireFox in the last weeks except for a little patch (to speed up browsing). But I did that 2 weeks ago... and it worked fine.

I'm not using any proxies.

Any Ideas?
Don't leave me with IE
Thanks.

1) Use Mozbackup to backup your bookmarks and settings.
http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

2) Uninstall Firefox.

3) Delete this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username&\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox

4) Download Firefox using IE (i know its painful... but it'll only be for a minute, i promise)

5) Reinstall Firefox

6) Start up Firefox (don't import anything) and close it (this is to create a new profile)

6) Use MozBackup to restore your profile settings

For increasing your speed, check out how to do it manually with this guide:

I did a backup... but then I couldn't restore my
"Mozilla 1.7.5 - 15.12.2004.pcv" file. Don't know why. Anyway, Firefox didn't work then with default settings (like the first time I used the new FireFox 1.0 a few weeks ago, when it came out.)

Luckely i could do "undo delete" on the FireFox folder in the Application data folder...that or Restore in RecycleBin...

I just can't figure out what it could be....I was surfing when it first died

Hmmm, well if mozbackup doesn't want to play nice you can backup your bookmarks the old fashion way. In that folder I pointed out to earlier in application data, if you go into the firefox folder and open up the default profile you'll see a file called bookmark. Just make a copy of that to dump back into the new profile folder later. Make sure you're not running firefox when you're restoring your bookmarks. Here's a guide on performing a clean install and recovering your old profile settings
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=158083

So even with a new install and a new profile it doesn't work? Did you download the official version from the site or one of the trunk builds from the ftp/forums?

Perhaps if you posted on the mozilla forums there might be some more people that experienced this and can give you some more insight.

Okeeeey... problem solved.
I have no freaking idea why, but it seems that I do need to have a sertain proxy. It wasn't like that before. My school probably changed the settings without telling people (I use an ADSL line through my school).

Thanks anyways people

**edit**
Even stranger that IE worked longer without proxy settings
