What version of firefox are you running?
Go to Help > About and copy and paste the lines there that look similar to this:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041223 Firefox/1.0

Also, do you have any extensions installed. Some extensions fiddle around too much with the functionality of firefox and can cause issues.

If all else fails, do a full clean reinstall.
1) Uninstall firefox
2) Delete your profiles by removing this folder:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox"
* before you do this you may want to get into your profile folder and make a back up of "bookmarks.html" to save your bookmarks

3) Install the latest version of firefox
4) Start up Firefox so that it'll create a new profile
5) Go back to the profile folder and replace your bookmarks file.
