that's a grounding loop. When two or more devices are connected to a common ground through different paths, a ground loop occurs. Currents flow through these multiple paths and develop voltages which can cause damage, noise or 50Hz/60Hz hum in audio or video equipment. you can remedy that humming by lifting the ground (getting a 3 prong to 2 prong power adapter) but then your chances of getting a shock are much higher if your futzing around with your electronics. Best thing to do is buy a ground loop isolator from Radio Shack which attaches to your RCA cables.

doesn't matter if it's rca or 1/8" it's the same principle, as long as both your computer and tv are on seperate outlets and are connected by an analog cable then you can get this humming.

oh, right. yeah well you can get adapters if you can't find an 1/8" version.

1/8" stereo male y-cable to female rca, thenhook in your existing ccable then get 2x female to female rca af\dapters for the other end and then the isolator then your reciever.

that but it needs to be stereo, that one is mono. stereo will have two rings at the top. but 2 of those will do if both ends are 1/8 stereo inputs. what are you plugging the computer sound card into?
