Any PSUs that have 12vDC Input?
not really, but whatever What I'm really hoping to find is a Powersupply that would be able to connect to the car's 12vDC power source, and then output all of the standard ATX power outputs to... let's say a p3 500 mhz computer with an 80 gb hard drive, and a CD drive, and a WLan card, and a sound card.... |

well i've never heard of one, though you could try an inverter, or use a Laptop instead of a full desktop, would be easier on your battery too

i wouldn't reccomend using my guide on that psu for a pc, because not only is it a 12v only psu for ac input applications, but even modifying it to get the right rails, the rails you will get are not stable enough for delicate electronics such as a pc, where .xx volts matters on every rail.

could you use an uninteruptable supply, and charge its batteries with the car?
one thing you have to realive is inverters usualy don't output a sign wave, like AC is naturaly, they generaly output a truncated square wave. I imagine most psu would be fine, but it migh cause some problems |

Well if you don't have one that would be a problem, i remember seeing this nice tablet laptop with a GPS go for sale about $400 usd (though it was only a P3 450) but if your trying to cash slow, then just go with an inverter, it would be your pest bet i think

thanks Roberto,
![]() Groo, that would be feasable, and possibly messy as well, because there would still be the possibility that you need to do work to step the car batteries voltage up to the ups's normal battery rating. That and it would drain the car's battery like hell, it'd be like running an insane sound system, you'd need a bigger alternator and possibly a second battery. |
