Anyone use VST Plugins to *listen*?

It's something I'm considering doing after I saw an VST EQ plugin that seems to be exactly what I want. The main question I have is the mechanics of getting a VST plugin to affect a playback signal from a player software, and the best way of doing this. Any comments?

I use VST's all the time when I'm mastering my music in wavelab..There should be other programs that can handle vst's that are much more inexpensive. You might try reason or fruityloops. Google around..there might be a freeware program that will suit your needs.
