Question Super Flower 550SS Rails higher @ load

I just bought the Super Flower TTGI-550SS in late May to replace my stock Raidmax 420W POS. The +12V rail is what concerns me. Idle the rail is @ +12.22 and @ Full Load the rail hits +12.55. The -12V goes from -12.77 to -12.52 & the -5V line goes from -5.95 to -5.79. The +12V rail is still within spec but its close & why is it getting higher instead of drooping?

The -12V rail isn't used in modern PC's, it just floats.

I tested the +12V line with my multimeter @ both idle and load (prime95 torture test) and these are my readings:

+12V @ Idle: +12.19
+12V @ Load +12.50

So there is not much difference between MBM5 & my multimeter. Which raises the question again...Why are my rails higher @ load?

Thanks David, I am going to RMA it for an upgrade and pay the difference. What exactly should I look for (getting away from Super Flower) in the upgrade?

I am now getting random shutdowns while Benchmarking or Gaming heavily and I lose all power so I have to unplug the power cord, wait 5 seconds or so, the turn the comp back on just to get power. Since I bought it @ Directron I am going to get the upgrade through them & they don't carry the X-Clio. I was going to get the OCZ PowerStream 420W +12V30A.

OCZ PowerStream 420W Specs @ NewEgg

OCZ PowerStream 420W @ Directron

Thanks alot Dave (again!), I'm sending the Super Flower 550SS back as RMA as soon as I get my new OCZ PowerStream 420W I ordered from NewEgg. That way I'm not without a PSU and I will sell the Super Flower when I get the new one.

Yeah I think so... I tested mine today and got this average:

12v : 11.76
5v : 4.90
3.3v : 3.38

btw, you were testing with a multimeter or voltmeter, right?

Well after buying the 14cm Super Flower SF-350ss Silence power supply ( Upgrading from 250 to 350 ) , my video card still tells me that i need more power in order to run it, And still stying to play Battlefield 2 ... my GT-6600 GeForce card runs very choppy still though its a bit faster but still very chuggy on movement.
So my question is that if i have the same power supply as the people above and they upgraded to that PowerStream 420W will mine works just as well? Pretty soon im going to have my own warehouse of power supplies just trying to find what will work.

" Motherboard Conflictions Questions " i made up few days ago, David thank you for your help on that one.. I might just have to go out on a limb and try it for the last time. any suggestions anyone?

Alright, forget this! I cancelled my order for the OCZ PowerStream 420W from NewEgg. My budget is $100 incl. s/h for a PSU. This my setup, tell me what PSU I should get - I want the best PSU for my money.

AMD XP-M 2400 45W
Thermaltake ALX-800
Delta 80mm 80CFM CPU Fan
1GB (2x512mb) OCZ Premier Dual Channel Kit
Albatron KX18DS NF2U Mobo
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb
Zalman VF700ALCU Video Card Cooler
Sound Blaster Live! PCI
V.90 Modem PCI
Lite-On 16XDVD & 52x32x52 DVD/CDRW Combo Drive EIDE
Seagate 80GB 7200RPM EIDE Hard Drive
4 x 80mm 35CFM case fans
1 x 120mm 96CFM case fan
Raidmax Scorpio 868 Mid Tower Case

**I will be switching out the ALX-800 & Delta 80mm 80CFM & Zalman VF700 Video Cooler for a Water Cooling setup utilizing a 12V DC Pump as soon as I have found the perfect PSU for my rig.**
