Power outages SUCK.

Power went out while I was at work....

4 Units down for 4 hours.

Ugh... my ppd... *cries*

Man......I know what you mean. It take's me 1 hour to fire up the farm when I have a power surge

I added up the time that the farm is down for 1 hour is like 1 rig down for a day.....

Hence why we don't just use one super computer.

FAH isn't distributed computing without reason.

The only reason I said cluster is because if you have a whole bunch of slow pc's, you could cluster them together so that you might have "one" decent folding system out of it.

yeah i had a power outage during the night for at least 2 hours. I stayed up half an hour hoping for it to come bak on but I ended up falling asleep. It sux, 6 hours without any folding done.

Yea......With Knoppix you half to start the server and then power each node up one at a time so the server will ID each node.

Same here! Except it was eight rigs for me. Two days later, I shut down my farm prophalactaly because of a flooded cellar. Most of another day lost.

Yes it is but I dont think it too much. But with the power it saves and the heat no being put out by the HHD. Every little bit helps.

i was actually thinking about doing this with my 4 p3 machines but i didn't know how relevant jason's article is today. i'll have to look again...
