Arrow CPU: AMD How To Remove A64 IHS (EDIT#5)

Ok... According to me heres the easiest 15 min way to do it.....
1) Get a blade, the processor & some protection for you hands.
2)To avoid bending pins put the processor in the black foam of the little box it came in & push the pins down in to it & now the pins wont bent even after extensively trying !!!
3) Put the processor in the freezer for 10 mins
4) Take it out
5) Now take the blade & push through the corner of the processor (DO NOT saw). Remember to push the blade only a maximum of 6mm.
6) Now once the blade is in, carve around the processor using the same pushing technique.

And thats it !!! It wont take more than 15mins !!!!

NOTE THIS THREAD WILL BE UPDATE WITH MORE PICS OF THE ACTUAL
REMOVAL !!!

EDIT 1: It has been noted by many people that using nailpolish remover/rubing alcohol on the blade has helped although I have not tried this myself.

EDIT 2: DO NOT no matter what happens forget that doing this will void warranty.

EDIT 3:*****WARNING THIS MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR CPU******
I and EOCF are not being responsible for anyone's destroyed processors you are the only one resposible !!! (Thanks aKio & nuke1266)

EDIT 4: Ok here come the pics for the removal !!!!

EDIT 5: Added picture of the daul core cpu under the IHS of the X2 4400 (Zer010s Daul Core).

Here are pictures of the A64 & blade I used (the processor pic was googled (its not mine)):

that's the only point. There are hazards; such as the Core being epoxied to the IHS,(or just a general screw-up taking it off) and the pressure from some heatsinks not making perfect contact with the core, or even too much pressure resulting in a cracked core.

plus voiding your warranty... but we're all used to that here........what i'd prolly do is take off the ihs, clean off the standard thermal solution, put on some AS5, and slap it back on....opinions?

It has been noted the VENICE cpus react to temperature after a certain stop at taking voltage. So it is at that point that removing the IHS maybe useful & has been noted to increase the overclock. For example it helped njkid32.

EDIT:

If anyone wants this a sticky please pm a mod.

Yes it did! I was stuck and couldnt go any farther but after I removed the IHS I was able to hit 3GHz.

I think we all viod warranties just oc'in and its the chance we all take. I knew what I was doing and if I messed it up I only have myself to blame. But if your going to do this you have to be willing to lose your CPU!

I would also throw in there somewhere about you and EOCF not being responsible for anyone's destroyed processors. I see where alot of other people do that, and it wouldn't hurt. Also, nice one, I vote sticky.

It is a very good guide, it is also extreme. It can severly damage your statutory rights and precious A64 Core. I will make it a stick for the time being, it depends how many people use it as to how long it stays a sticky because we run out of space for sticky's

I would suggest taking a look at njkid32's post as it offers a lot more detail and definitive results for taking off the top. Also, I wouldn't use the exacto blade XpAvenger suggests. It's too thick and you'll have a difficult time. Everyone that has had easy success with this process uses a double edged razor blade (see pic). You can pick them up at any pharmacy for around $3.50 for a pack of 10. It easily fits between the PCB and IHS and is extremly sharp to cut through the sealant quickly. Just make sure to cut off one of the sides so as not to cut yourself during the process.

I will soon prove that the blade that I used is much easier to use...
It took my only 15 minutes to remove the IHS, while it took the others up to an hour.
So how can that be easier anyway ??? Anyway I will soon make my point with pictures.
