OK, i'll list recent (or somewhat recent) games that I thought were kickass:

FPS:
HL2 & CSS
BF2 (kickass gameplay, ****ty ****** EA *****es)
UTK4
Doom 3
Farcry
SWAT4 (i'm a SWAT fan)

RPG:
KOTR
KOTR 2
NWN + expansions (I played through all three with one char, ended up with a lvl 40 Blackguard with the Blackguard armor set and some kickass l33t bastard sword... this game single handidly solidified my D&D obsession)
GTA: San Andreas (what else is there to say?)
Morrowind 3

RTS:
RON and T&P expansion (this game single handidly rocked... hard)
Rome Total War (after deciding to sell off all my games since I've been getting less time to play them (with a gf and school... games sadly get last spot on priority list... and honestly... i'm just trying to make room for B&W 2 and Quake 4 so that they both get as much attention as they can)... I decided to keep this game because it's just a great game)
Dawn of War (kickass game, just a lot of balance issues)

Misc:
WoW (it sucked the life out of me... but it was so **** amazing)
Splinter Cell: PT and Splinter Cell: CT (multiplayer was kickass)

How about a classic RTS game that nobody ever seemed to know about...

Warlords: Battlecry III

It was a mix of RPG and RTS, you had a hero who leveled up, gained spells and other abilities, as well as a retinue of troops you kept from battles. Like 11 different races, dragons, titans(these things would scare ANYONE once you see them, but take FIFTEEN MINUTES TO BUILD!)... Amazing game, but no one ever seemed to even know it existed.

imnzerg i reckon if you put the games into categories it would be better. e.g: list FPS games under the heading FPS and racing games under the title RACING, RTS etc etc (ok im stating the obvious but you know what I mean). That way you can easily add games to each category as you think of them, and it would make everything nice and tidy. hell, it may even be counted as a guide if you make sure all the games on it are quality enough.

EDIT - Cleaned thread of stupid comments, kec789 if you don't like the thread don't read it, last warning for thread crapping.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War has got to be one of the best RTS out there right now hands down

P.S. Dil-Tech i liked Battlecry 2 a bit more than 3, all the different races in 3 didnt seem worth it and the hero setup could more or less make them all the same

GTR FIA for driving games. If you want to add simulations, Silent Hunter III is fun.
