Microsoft to release 8 patches on Tuesday

Microsoft will release eight new security updates on "Patch Tuesday". At least one of these is deemed critical and another one for Exchange is rated important.

Microsoft's notice Thursday did not specify whether any of the patches will be for Internet Explorer, the Web browser component of Windows. Several security researchers have come forward with flaws in IE over the past weeks. Some of these vulnerabilities could let an attacker commandeer a user's PC.

lol...that's what I'm saying...the biggest problem with IE is the fact that it uses ActiveX controls, that's the most common way that people get spyware and viruses into your PC nowadays (thankfully Mozilla doesn't use ActiveX at all)

In terms of security, maybe. But in general the lack of working support for webstandards is the biggest problem, and IE7 is not gonna fix all that, at least not without further patching to come.

Second that, lovely browser. It's not that firefox is an exception though, other common browsers like opera, safari or konqueror are great examples aswell of how it should be done.

Yeah, pretty much. IE still DOMINATES the market, so most attackers use this as thier way in. Nobody that I know that isn't "in the know" uses anything but IE. Heck, I use IE because I've never had any problems with it.
