Building first overclocking system which board?

Hi im building a new overclocking system for a mate and he has chosen two motherboards he likes and are in his price range.

Asus A8N-SLi
Abit A8N-SLi

He wants to hit 2.4ghz on his 3000+ venice. I was wondering which board is better to do this i was thinking the Asus. Am i wrong? Thank you.

I would go the abit, it has more of a chance of getting higher oc's and is newb friendly.

I've had pretty good luck with Gigabyte, ok OCs and relatively cheap. With the K8NS Ultra 939, I hit 2.5ghz stable on 3200, and the nf3 boards are probably getting cheap by now.

ELL, any good N3-250 or N4 should be able to get to 2.4GHz!

A DFI N4 might get you to 2.7GHz+!

Stick to DFI, and anything you don't feel comfortable messing with leave to auto, it's the best boards out there.

Guys... he said this is for a friend and that his friend wants one of those two (Asus or Abit) because he can afford them and is a newb. We all know DFI is the board to go with for further overclocking, but that's not what he's asking. Save your fanboy comments for another thread . Now, back to the point at hand, I personally think Asus is a very trustworthy brand, every MoBo I've had has been Asus, and they've always been reliable. Either choice would be fine, I say just go with the cheaper one, as both will serve him well .

DFI's offer's boards that aren't expensive and it offers everything any asus board has PLUS more, and if he's a noob it's quite simple, JUST DON'T TOUCH THE OTHER STUFF. Hell, it would be a great noob board, as he get's more familiar with things he can beging to tweak it more and more step by step, which unlike the Asus he won't be stopped by board limitations/options. And if you call me a fanboy for wanting/recommending the best hardware (regardless of brand) then good for me. BTW, your comments after the fanboy comment borderline fanboyism ironically.

Hehehe good points Urban, I guess my comments didn't turn out the way I intended . I simply haven't had any experience with DFI, I was just explaining how easy it was for me with the Asus. If DFI offers a similar priced, newb friendly board, then go for it!

Ye the DFI has the same basic options as the Asus, plus more technical bios settings for when you get more comfortable.
