yet another "what PSU is good" questions, this time EPS
Problem is that it has an 8pin EPS plug, the regular 24pin, and the usual SLI 4pin EZPlug thing by Asus. I have been reading here quite a bit in the last week, and I wanted to run my ideas past the experts. OCZ Powerstream 520 SLI, seems to have everything I would need. I would likely rerun all the power lines for length (except the 24, I need that long). I am concerned that your efficiency tests put this at 71% in the med-high load range. Enermax Liberty 520 SLI EPS, seems like a quieter alternative to the OCZ and with better efficiency. I had originally wanted a P PC & C 510 but that is apparently kind of noisy by comparison, and doens't have the 8pin EPS that I can tell. Advice? PS, I'm not afraid to spend $150-200-250 on a PSU, my 512GTX is in the RMA process to BFG as of now, and it will all be watercooled in a custom designed/laser cut case. |

The PCP&C PSUs are great, and of course, noisy. I have a couple servers running those, but I replaced the fans with quieter models and ran the output leads outside of the PSU case to a fan controller.
This of course probably voids warranties and things and I wouldnt let the PSU get too hot. For 24x7 operation with regular 6 month cleanings, they run fine. So if this is going to be a 8hour day machine, I wouldnt worry about it, just use quieter fans. The PSU uses high quality parts with high heat tolerances. And if you have good airflow in your case to begin with, the PSU will be sucking cooler air anyway. On that note, I love OCZ PSUs, but havent used one for a server yet. Antec EPS psus run a couple dual Xeons I built as webservers and have done very well too. But the technology in PCP&C is superior. I dont think your doing a server, so anything you mentioned would be fine really. |

thank you.
I opted for the Enermax Liberty 500W. I like the higher efficiency rating, and the tests here at your site showed it was **** near as tight as the OCZ as well I usually only run one Optical (like a Plextor 716 SATA) and two HDDs (figure WD 250 Sata300). Again, thanks for the judgement. |

any guesses on what point using a Dual 12V PSU might limit me on a P4 3.73EE system?
I have the Asus P5N32 just about ready to fire up with my BFG 7800GTX 512 OC ready to go. Some wiring layout for tidiness, and maybe some punchdown relocates on the Molex ends to shorten things: very nearly ready to install the OS. I'm going to run a DD 12V pump, a dual 120mm Radiator, a DD TDX block, and all low rpm 120mm fans. I really like the build quality of the Enermax: only ever used Antec and my one Ultra Xconnect. The connections feel solid, not wiggly, and the cable bundles all come neatly in a velcro fold up "bag." |
